Okay, so I have scoured the internet and I can't figure out how to make my comics look sharp, especially the text sharp.  If I look at a site like say "Cyanide and Happiness" on my mobile device, I can read the text and the lines in the drawings look perfect.  When I look at my webcomic the pictures looks pixelated and I can barely read the text.  And if I zoom in everything looks HORRIBLE, and the text is still not legible.

So how do all you guys make your webcomics looks so good?

I use photoshop to edit drawings and place text.  I use 300 pixels/inch resolution and scan in the drawings at 400 dpi.  The final file is saved as a .png

You'd think this would be more than enough to make a sharp, crystal clear webcomic.

What am I doing wrong?!

Thanks!!

Try scanning in as B+W, and then using Unsharp Mask to clean up those pixels. Or try playing with the Levels and Curves after scanning until you get the desired result. Certain artifacts from the paper will come through, and both ways can adjust that.

Hey, thanks for the advice, but my problem doesn't lie with the initial scan, as I have posted many crystal clear comics in the past.  After the comic I posted above, I posted another which looked fine on my mobile phone, but then I posted my most recent one, and once again it looks terrible on a mobile device.  I used the same template that I used for the previous clear one.  One thing I noticed is the file sizes of the poor quality ones are smaller, but I don't understand why this is so because when I save the file in photoshop, my options for saving a png are limited to "interlace or none".  So I don't get how it would be different from one project to the next.

Have you always exported your images in PNG format? Or were the earlier ones JPGs, which can have a higher color. If not, have you accidentally decreased the number of exported colors to less than 256?
