    Good Singleplayer PC Games?

Anyone have any good (new) singleplayer pc games they recommend?

Recent memorable pc games for me have been:  Star Wars Republic Commando, Freedom ForceĀ® vs The 3rd Reich, and Vampire Bloodlines (a bit older, but still, I thought it was an awesome game!).

I find it difficult to stop playing WOW, and when I do stop, I often feel the desire to play COH (City of Heroes).  I would like to play a good space flight sim, but I haven't seen any that were good in years.

I may decide to play Jade Empire, but as far as I know, its only going to be out for xbox, and I don't like to leave my computer (3 screens = working, playing, and watching movies at the same time on the same pc!)

Nothing new, waiting for Elder Scrolls 4 and Battlefield 2. Those should be a blast.

that's a shame, Jade Empire is one wicked game. i'd recommend it if you ever left your PC.

I spent many hours playing Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic. Many, many hours. And Morrowind (Edler Scrolls 3), of course.

CS 1.6 is craziest game ever made. Source was too realistic.

The Elder Scrolls series in general just makes for great single player computer gaming. An RTS I also found to be oodles of fun was "Command and Conquer: Generals". If you're out for blood, "Dawn of War" serves it up by the gallon. Both of those are potentially online RTS games but have good single player gameplay as well.

I preordered Elder Scrolls IV, Oblivion, having previously bought and played Daggerfall (ES 2) and Morrowind (ES3).  I'm really looking forward to it.

It was supposed to be released this month, and the Xbox 360 game was supposed to be released next month, but they pushed back the PC game to have the same release date as the xbox 360 version. :(

I'd like to hope it was because they wanted the pc version to have as many bug fixes as the Xbox 360 version would have, but even though I'm a super big Microsoft fan I do have a little doubt that maybe because its going to be one of the best Xbox 360 titles it was pushed back so as to not give the PC version any advantage.

Regardless, I bought the PC version, I'd rather have high rez using a mouse and keyboard than the seamless "just work" ability of the xbox 360.  Which is kind of a shame, considering I only have King Kong for my xbox 360 (and a slew of xbox live arcade games, but it would be nice to have more titles).

I also preorderd the Star Wars RTS.  The demo from fileplanet was pretty cool, so I'm looking forward to it even though I've somewhat lost my taste for RTS games ever since Warcraft 3 destroyed my faith in blizzard's RTS's (I'm still hoping they'll develop a starcraft 2 that isn't hero based and more focused on the straight build up and control of units/buildings).  I'm not a big fan of pseudo-realistic war RTS, I prefer either sci-fi or fantasy.... so no C&C for me.

The three PC games I'm looking forward to the most are Spore, Supreme Commander, and Heroes of Might and Magic 5..

I don't know anything about Spore and Supreme Commander, but I'm a big fan of the HoM&M series (I was an even bigger fan of the old Might and Magic games before everything went 3D), though I haven't read anything about HoM&M 5, what kind of new features are they adding?  Hopefully better graphics, the old graphics were nice hand drawn stuff but looks dated IMO in comparison to a lot of the newer crisper graphics in other games.

Duh! I can't believe I let this game slip my mind... Freelancer!

This isn't new; in fact it's kind of an old game now. Four years I think... However the graphics are still simply stunning and it's got a pretty cool storyline with some great voice acting.

What's it about? Well it's an open ended space flight sim; you play Edison Trent a free lancing space jockey. Like other open ended games ala "The Elder Scrolls" you are free to do as you wish taking jobs for various factions and groups raising rep and getting better equipment, better ships, ect... You can escort freighters caring goods across the galaxy protecting them from the various pirate factions that prey on others in the darkness of space; you can help the law enforcement, navy, and bounty hunters by hunting the bounties on these pirates and smugglers. Even better, you can join the other side and pirate unsuspecting vessels, smuggle drugs and other illegal goods to those who can pay the most, fighting off the law as the price on your head grows.

Become an explorer, discover lost wrecks and salvage their cargo, mine asteroid fields for valuable minerals, purchase a freighter and plan out your own trade routes as you fend off pirates seeking to take your cargo before you can sell it off on one of the many planets, space stations, and hidden pirate bases in a massive galaxy spanning 48 systems! All this is available for you to do along side exciting story based missions surrounding a twisting plot full of romance, intrigue, and betrayal... well maybe not all of those things but it is a good story none the less.

Still not enough? There was once a very active mod community, now dormant I would suspect but you never know... Form here you can down load new ships, skins, star systems and more. My personal favorites are the Star Wars add-ons such as the Star Wars Ship Pack by Porsche and the Star Wars Music Mod.

Tired of sitting in front of your computer playing with yourself? No? Well you can play this multiplayer anyway on the net or a LAN; I'll tell you there is nothing quite like having a squad of your close friends at your back in an intense dog fight.

I think it's obvious that I love this game; it's one of my all time favorites. What the hell are you waiting for? Go out and buy it, I doubt its much more than twenty bucks these days. Still not sure? Check out the trial version available at their web site.

I second this whole-heartedly. Freelancer was and still is one of the best PC games of the last 5 years.

Other games I've enjoyed in the past few years...

    Splinter Cell: Chaos Theory

    The Bard's Tale

Stubbs the Zombie: Rebel without a Pulse

    Thief III: Deadly Shadows

    Rome: Total War

I recommend any and all of these games for the avid pc gamer.
