I don't think so, and while Arudin isn't technically "evil" he is selfish and greedy enough to earn the nickname "captain evil"...

Well it is harder to be cool and be a total bastard while your raven familiar craps on you.

And a mighty animal companion it will be too, until it comes up against the feared Dire Seal!

that greedy part might cause trouble if he picks a dragon familiar....

Well Pseudo-Dragons are the only ones small enough to be a familiar and they are Choatic Good... I suppose so long as he wasn't rude to the Dragon and kept doing things like saving Durnkrag they would get along. There is a potential for good in Arudin and I think Durnkrag sees that, which is why he travels with him, hoping to keep him on the path of good...ish.

Incorrect. Pseudodragons are Neutral Good. Wink [;)]

Ah yes, you are correct... It's been a while though since I've pick up a monster manual so... :P I guess it was the part in the discription that I remember about them being very cat-like and playing pranks on people they don't like that made me think chaotic.

As far as I know Fairy Dragons are Chaotic Good but I have some serious doubts Arudin would choose such a familiar.

Let's not forget, folks, since (IIRC) 3.0 Edition, Arudin (or any other wizard or sorcerer) cannot have any creature as a familiar that is not a natural animal of Tiny size (or outside of the list given in the PHB, DMG or of the DM's creation) without the Improved Familiar feat.

Since Kayless advises not to worry about the familiar, I say the case is closed.

But a normal penguin could certainly be a familiar and make a very worthy one too.

So you'll be playing with rules that are older than I am.
