    RE: Dungeon Burn-out

I have been playing a DnD campaign online for the past couple of weeks with some friends from the Wotch, it's slow going though.
    Scratchit: But he's a cripple!
Blackadder: He's not a cripple, Mrs Scratchit. Occasionally saying "Phew! My leg hurts!" when he remembers to wouldn't fool Baldrick!

    RE: Dungeon Burn-out

This is actually my 2nd go at DM. The first was shakey, but the plot good. It revolved around the idea of this were-cult that wanted to bring about lycanthropy to the world (they viewed it as perfection, the merger of man and beast) and also to make their god rise further on the deific foodchain. I never did kill any of the players because 1)I underestimated them and 2) I wanted the characters alive at the end.

This time around I've done it in "baby steps"
    -PC at 2hp
    -PC at -3hp
-Killed PC after battle w/ Mummy Rot (cleric was not present nor would have arrived in time game-time wise)

Next step is to get one of them in combat. I have my sights on the ranger, the cleric, the pirate, and the psion. I'm up to suggestions on who you think should meet their maker.

    RE: Dungeon Burn-out

What Twitch says. Kill The Psion. Pirates are too cool. Especially if they are playing the character with the voice and everything.

I would not focus on killing a specific character though. Just give the PC's a little more than enough to handle and let them figure out who bites the dust.

Well the psion has been itching to duel his brother... I guess I can try to kill the little ****. A goblin duel shall commence! Just got to deck out "King Harkin" with lotsa nasty anti-psion goodies.

So while the duel is going on what will the rest of the party do?

    RE: Dungeon Burn-out

I said the 1st one. *grin* Trust me, if you dealt with my cousin's character, you'd say the same thing.

Here's what I got planned. The group shall meet the newest PC, Stumble Walkerson (better known as Stu). After introductions, the group shall set off in search of the other 2 puzzle pieces, but! The gold dragon chick they met is gonna be kidnapped.

Here's where I am stuck... I was thinking they should maybe find some remote village where some of the villagers are undead or half-undead (thank you Dragon Magazine) and they don't seem to notice... as if in a trance. But again, the issue of seperating the group and getting the blue goblin to fight his twin bro.

Oh, and the silver dragon they just met is going to have some babies by the monk in the group.... This is what a half-giant gets for banging the dragon in her hot elf form.

    RE: Dungeon Burn-out

Hmm, seperating the group is difficult. It not only is hard to make sure the right PC's go the right way but running two seperate directions and encounters is hard on the DM. The village thing sounds good.

To seperate them get them into some situation where an item or something is needed to solve the problem. Make it such that only some of the PC's are required to get the item and the rest must stay or possible search for another item. Then once the psion is segregated have the bro pop up and throw down the gauntlet.

    RE: Dungeon Burn-out

Yeah, I really like the village too.  Theres something about ruins in civilization or non-life within what is supposed to be life that gets me intrigued.

That said, Im not sure how easy it would be to convince the group that theres nothing wrong with the town, unless you completely bypass any suspisions that could arise.

    RE: Dungeon Burn-out

The psion threw me a curvebal.. He told me on AIm that if possible, he would like to make his character's bro a goodbuy using "Sanctify the Wicked". I'd be willing to let it happen, but I want your opinions.

    RE: Dungeon Burn-out

Pasonally I don't like plotting to kill a character, i'll set up a tough situation and if they make a stupid mistake they will pay for it. However just chooseing out right that his character will die no matter what just because you feel there needs to be a death in the party is a pretty bad way to go about it in my opinion. After all I know I would be upset if I spent hours (or days/weeks even) making a character and it was killed off by the Dm who made a character who I would have to face with little or no help that was designed to kill me.

    RE: Dungeon Burn-out

It's not lie I am "Argh! I shall kill the psion!"

Here's the deal. Azuul is a blue goblin psion who fancies himself the king of the ectoplasm and goblins. His twin brother, Harkin, his a rather intelligent and strong red goblin who fighter/cavalier. He has sworn to kill Azuul because A)He's a psion and a blue and B)Harkin thinks he is the only king of the goblins.

I am going to design Harkin to be the equal rival of Azuul. The dice shall determine the winner.
