    Gradient Meshing

Assuming that there's someone out there who uses Illustrator and would like discuss it here, does anybody use gradient meshing?

    RE: Gradient Meshing

I used Gradient Meshing for my Edge project at school. I used it for the face of the character, as well as the hair... It's an extremely versatile way of making colors flow into one another, but that assumes you can spend the amount of time necessary on making it look right. I can do some limited meshing, but it's a very limited skill that I have.

    RE: Gradient Meshing

Gradients look the same as a mesh, but flow differently than a mesh does. A mesh allows you to control where specific patches of color are supposed to go, and also allow you to specify a color for each point in your mesh. Regular gradients can have just about any amount of colors like a mesh can, but they can't have points defined in 2D space, and the flows are either linear or radial.

In other words, a regular gradient is quick and effective, but a gradient mesh (only if properly used) gives an art piece more definition and a degree of realism.

    Whew!

    RE: Gradient Meshing

A gradient is a blending between two specified colors. It's definitely a very popularly used tool in webcomics. I use them fairly frequently to accentuate shading according to subtle lighting in some of my comics.
