Death Note (no spoilers for people only watching anime, plzkthnx)

Death Note is definitely my current anime of choice. It's got a good idea behind it, a creepy nihilistic world view, a main character with a god-complex, every episode seems to be full of excitement, it has Ryuk in it and it's beautifully animated. Thrown in is some over-the-top dramatisation of what would otherwise be everyday events:

    making this a great anime.
I wasn't overly impressed with the first of the two live action movies, but that was more because of storyline changes than the carrying over from anime/manga to live action. Ryuk was done brilliantly, although they did make him too fidgity for my liking. >.>
FYI the first Death Note movie is only a little bit ahead of where the anime is at the moment, so not too much of a worry with spoilers.

What's the point of a hero with no one to save?

Yes it is awesome. I love the fact that every episode you go: "oooh, that cunning bastard". Haven't seen that crispilicious scene yet, guessing its in episode 8 which I'll be watching soonish. The overthetopness is the only thing letting the series down so far I reckon - its fun, but because the story is moving so slowly and because I don't think they're doing it on purpose, it seems a bit pretentious.

Where'd you get the movie from?

I know, Light's brilliance isn't so amazing that you're in awe of the author thinking it up, but if you imagine being in Light's position coming up with that sort of stuff both on the fly and before hand is pretty amazing. Indeed it is in episode 8, along with further proof of Light's foresight when we find his secrect stash of "for show only" porn to make him look like a normal teenager to anyone sneaking around his room. XD I didn't like the over-the-topness at first, especially with the trying to inject drama into writing names down. But the storyline is supposedly really starting to pick up around now and I think the injection of drama will work well when there's actually already some drama there. Ryuk is classic, he's a great combination between hilarity and evil intent.

I PM'd you about the movie as I'm not sure as to legistics of such things. But as ever, a quick torrent search will probably turn up any hot topic of the day.
