Hello, my name is Noah Chinn (aka Mossfoot, author of Fuzzy Knights) and I'm here looking for talent!
I'm part of a team developing a new publishing company, focusing on science fiction and fantasy genre novels, games and a special magazine I am in charge of.
The magazine is called Writers of Worlds, and it's an eclectic fantasy magazine which includes everything fantasy lovers and gamers could want: short stories, feature articles, interviews, reviews, even a free RPG game and adventure in each issue (top secret as to how we're pulling that off)!
To really round things out we also want to have two or three comic strips involved. So we're looking for artists and writers. However, we'd prefer package deals, people who can do both, for one simple reason: the more people involved the more problems we might have making deadlines (ie artists waiting for writers to finish a script). however, if you already have a "team" that works well together, that's fine with us.
We have three comic projects lined up:
1) a six page ongoing dramatic comic with continuing storyline. This should be written with the idea of collecting them into a graphic novel at a later point in mind. The quality of the art needs to be very high, as does the writing. We're talking Disney quality here, though not Disney style (unless that's your thing). The writing needs to be well developed, and planned out in an arc in advance, not made up as you go along.
2) a one page humerous comic strip which doesn't require an ongoing story per-se, but could if you wanted to. This is kind of like what many web-comic artists are already doing. The quality of the art doesn't have to be Disney quality, but does need to be attractive and clear. Having a full page to work with means you have more room to build up multiple punchlines as well as an interesting narrative.
3) a short humerous 3-5 panel comic strip, like what you'd find in the daily newspaper. Again this doesn't require an ongoing story, just a premise and solid gags. The art requirements are lowest for this one, and can even be "sketchy" as long as your pictures are clear and amusing and most importantly, you can get a laugh out of us, you've got a shot.
To apply, you'll need to show us what you can do. Email me at mossfoot@gmail.com, either attaching or linking me to samples of your work.
Those who qualify will take some time discussing their ideas with me, and those who are chosen will eventually need to provide a sample of the first installment on an "on spec" basis. That is, we can't pay you for it right away, but when the magazine goes to press we will. If for whatever reason the magazine doesn't happen, you will retain full rights to your work and be free to use it elsewhere, so it won't be a complete waste of your time ;)
Thank you for your time.
