    Re: Random Acts of Insainity

I'd probably be the loud, laughing, yet somewhat cheeky guy who does stupid things with the defence that "it seemed like a good idea at the time"

so I guess that's the main reason I don't intend getting drunk Stick out tongue [:P]

I base that on the fact that that is me in a nutshell, just that I'm a bit of a lighter version... I guess I let the imagination flow, and am not affraid of going through with a lot of the stuff other people won't take further than "wouldn't it be cool/fun if..." or "someone should..."

take "meh, what could go wrong?", add "bah, what's the worst thing that can happen?", a flowing imagination, a bit of creativity, a cheerful mood, a twisted sense of humor and a touch of common sense, then you have me ^^
it's been the basis of a lot of good laughs, but it's also gotten me into a lot of trouble on occasion... but thanks to that little bit of common sense, it's never been anything too serious

    Re: Random Acts of Insainity

I believe I remain myself when I am drunk, but I am slower to react to things... So in essence, I am a friendly drunk.  Only once have I been 'scene-missing' drunk where the only things I recall were declaring I felt sick, asking for some toast, and apologizing to our friend who doesnt drink.  Apparently during a 'blank' moment, I declared I didn't "understand what they are saying" when watching Monty Python (a show I find very funny when I am sober).  Beyond that, the whole evening was reminiscent of a dream where I only can recall a few scenes upon awakening as time lost all meaning.

Monty Python is great, I got videotapes with "Life of Brian", "Quest for the holy grail", "Meaning of Life" and a DVD with their "Greatest hits" and then I got some other Flying Circus scetches stashed away somewhere on tape... oh, and this christmas they showed the Live show they did in Hollywood, on TV

Google Video got some good clips too ^^

    Re: Random Acts of Insainity

Aside from 'Dracula: Dead and Loving It' Mel Brooks' work generally exceeds Monty Pythons.  Lots of love to both parties though.   They probably are the best.  And the Monty Python crew in other films generally improve every film theyre in, even if the movie is a trainwreck, they make it worth watching.

Mel Brooks generally makes good actors seem even better in his films

Normally, I'd never say that. I get all their jokes and I understand their accents.

    Gah!

    ......

    Double Gah!

Youre missing out on a HUGE world here!

Well here is a very quickie review of Brooks' movies...

    Blazing Saddles

Plot: It parodies western films and society.   A western town set in the 1850s is in peril for a sheriff.  The government sends in a black sheriff to be the replacement, and the townspeople (racist back in the 1850s) cant believe it.
General feeling towards the film:  Hilarious, probably Brooks' best work.  People accused it of bigotry, but honestly, those people are stupid.  This film makes fun of everyone and it does so in a light hearted way.  Extremely enjoyable film.   I miss Cleavon Little.  He was so good in this film.  10 out of 10

    Robin Hood: Men in Tights

Plot: A parody of the classic Robin Hood tale as told by Brooks.
Feeling towards the film:  This along with Blazing Saddles are my favorites of Brooks.  Its nearly a perfect parody, it helps to know Robin Hood's story but is not necessary to enjoy the film.  Almost all the jokes hit the target on this one.  10 out of 10

    Young Frankenstein

Plot: Parody and new look at monster films and the Frankenstein story
Feeling towards the film:  Most everyone has this as their favorite Brooks film, for me, it fell short of that.  I thought it was really funny but wasnt as good as my top 3 Brooks films.  8 out of 10

    Spaceballs

Plot: Parody of the Star Wars movies
Feeling towards the film:  Well done, so good that one of my friends basically memorized it word for word.  Its generally really popular but the biggest Brooks fans typically dont rate it as high as Young Frankenstein or Blazing Saddles.  Its my 3rd favorite of those Ive seen.  9 out of 10

History of the World: Part 1

Plot: A comical look at the history of mankind from cavemen on through the 1800s
Feeling towards the film:  It was a bit fragmented sometimes, but genrally good.  Its probably the most different Brooks film as it doesnt really focus so much on a time frame, its a bunch of scenes that make up the film as its more of a timeline.  I liked it.  8 out of 10

    The Producers

Plot:  2 producers hope to make a collossal flop
Feeling towards the film:  It was his first film and hes since made it a musical.  Ive never seen either actually, but lots say theyre very good, especially the first one.

    Dracula: Dead and Loving It

Plot: A parody of the classic Dracula tales
Felling towards the film:  Generally considered to be the worst of the Brooks films, many jokes just dont fly others seem a little dirtier than past and juvinile while other times the film just seems dull and drab, almost dead on arrival.  It has its few moments to make you chuckle, but overall a weak production that had more potential.  3 out of 10.

I think that about covers it.  Im probably forgetting one, doh!

@ EPSC--Im not mean unless given a golden oppurtunity to be so Big Smile [:D]

    Froderick Fronkenstien ^^

Marty Feldman cracks me up... I've never seen "Men in tights" or "The History of...", nor have I seen Dracula, though everyone says it's bad, so I'll see if I ever will ^^
I got most of his films and they're really good, though "Silent Movie" is a bit hard too watch since there's no dialogue... only one word is said in the entire movie, but it is funny despite that
seen it once or twice ^^
I got to get "Men in Tights", I've heard it's wickedSmile [:)]

I must say that Mel Brooks has given me many of my most enjoyed movies. I love his style of humor. My wife can't stand him but hey who said she had to watch.

    Re: Random Acts of Insainity

Ah yes Silent Movie, the 2nd of his films Ive never seen.  I knew I was forgetting one.  Im surprised my dad doesnt have it because he loves silent films.

Robin Hood Men in Tights is quite good.  It stars Cary Elwes as Robin Hood, probably in one of his best roles.  Dave Chappelle, Richard Lewis, Roger Rees, and Patrick Stewart also are in it.  I thought all of the actors in it did a good job

High Anxiety and Life Stinks were another pair of movies made by Brooks that I didnt see.

I got both of them, they are really good...

I like Mel Brooks because he, like the Python crew, make fun of everything and everyone, they're not affraid of doing things that may be considered shocking, like making jokes about things that are considered taboo, such as Racism, Homophobia, Hitler (or "Hilter"), etc.

They also got the sort of twisted humor that I like, E.G. the psyciatric conclusion made on Mel Brooks' character in the end High Anxiety (not going to spoil it, but it's silly yet funny)
I think Mel Brooks also have a talent of picking good actors, as well as getting them to act well... he's also a good actor himself

I've made my very own motivational poster.

You can make one too here.

Blackadder: He's not a cripple, Mrs Scratchit. Occasionally saying "Phew! My leg hurts!" when he remembers to wouldn't fool Baldrick!
