    Character creation

I've been thinking of starting my own webcomic for quite some time now. Although I must admit I'm new to this comic stuff, I don't want this to be a one-day-fly. Therefore I decided to do some research before I plunge myself into the deep. You know, get a firm base on what I'm going to start. I've gathered a descent amount of tutorials and tips&trics about things as storytelling, drawing/inking, etc. I've got a reasonable good idea for the story, setting and charactertypes. Now I think its time for me to further define the characters. After this I can model the story more in-depth around them, and so on...

Although I've got some basic ideas about the process of creating characters, I couldn't find more information about this process. I've found a few websites wich handle this proces (wich aren't all that good if you'll ask me...) and managed to get 1 book: the comic toolbox. Allthough this book is quite allright, I still want to ask you guy's if you know some more recources I could use.

Do you know a good website/tutorial/book wich can help me with this process? Also I'm interested in how you guys handle these things?
One other thing: I also found this book "Wizard how to draw - character creation". I wonder if anyone of you guys know if this can help me, as I've read on other forums that these books aren't all that okay.

Hope you guys can help me in this quest!

    Re: Character creation

I can't give you any feedback on that particular book, but in terms of actual character creation -- that could span several topics. Are you wanting some basic drawing skills, i.e., how to make your sexy woman look like a sexy woman, etc.... are you looking for good character design principles, i.e., creating a visually appealing character with a memorable look that gives the impression you want.... are you looking for tips and tricks on fleshing out characters, in terms of the writing -- their personalities and such?

I'm sure many people here can help with more details, but I'll go ahead and add: If you're looking for tips on good character design, I can point you in the direction of something completely free: http://forums.megatokyo.com/index.php?showtopic=1715168&hl=

This is a "class" on character design. I'm assuming there were a certain number of spots open for people who wanted to be officially "graded" on the homework, and then these threads are the so-called rogue class for those who were not officially students, but wanted to do the assignments and get feedback anyway. At any rate, there's a lot of solid stuff here -- many things (particularly the earlier steps, about working with shapes and starting from sillhouettes) that I learned in my own Character Design for Sequential Art classes at college.
