I've often said that 'art' can be defined as anything created for the primary purpose of producing an emotional response in the viewer. But I think that even more than that, it's the fundamental hope of all artists to create something that is
inspirational. That's why I was touched to receive the following email from some random guy based on
this comic:
Earlier this year I came across your post on 12/04/05 and I have to say it really got to me. So I decided that the wealthiest and most powerful nation in the world not having a monument dedicated to peace was something that had to end. A few days ago I started on Facebook a group called the National Peace Monument, whose mission it is to escalate this issue by getting enough people to join it to spur action in order to rectify this problem. It started with just me then, a couple of friends and now total strangers are joining the group.
Do these guys actually have a chance of getting a monument built? Who knows. But the fact that I've now inspired a 'movement' is pretty exciting don't you think? And maybe some day, if it does get built, that monument will inspire the next Ghandi or even better, discourage the next John Yoo.
