Last year, the grand prize went to a webcomic artist, maybe this year will see history repeat itself?  Who knows?  We'd really like to invite all webcomic folks to participate, though.

‘2007 COMIC BOOK CHALLENGE, submissions NOW open

Aspiring Comic Creators Encouraged to Submit Characters and Story Ideas for Publishing and Development Deal

LOS ANGELES, May 1, 2007 – Platinum Studios (www.PlatinumStudios.com), an entertainment media company that controls the world’s largest independent library of comic book characters, today announced the opening of submissions for the 2007 Comic Book Challenge (www.ComicBookChallenge.com), a yearly contest for aspiring comic book writers and artists worldwide.

Comic book creators are encouraged to submit their entries online beginning today and closing May 31, 2007.  The top 50 entrants will be invited to pitch their concepts live to a celebrity panel of industry and Hollywood insiders at a secret location near this year’s International San Diego Comic-Con, the industry’s premier comic book convention, in July.  Platinum Studios will sign the winner for a publishing deal, which will include print, online, mobile, and creation of a licensing and merchandising program.  In addition, the company will help develop the property for film and television.

“This contest is an opportunity for aspiring comic creators to have their ideas reviewed by industry insiders, and has the potential to sky rocket them to fame within the comic world and beyond,” said Scott Mitchell Rosenberg, chairman of Platinum Studios and founder of Malibu Comics, where he discovered and developed “Men In Black,” which became a billion dollar franchise.  “DJ Coffman, the 2006 Comic Book Challenge winner, pitched his title, ‘Hero By Night,’ that turned his passion for comics into a full-time paying gig.  We look forward to finding and introducing new talented creators, characters and stories through this talent competition.”

The top 50 entrants will pitch their ideas live in San Diego on July 26 and the judges will announce the top 10 semi-finalists on July 28. The public will then be able to vote for their favorite concept online at www.ComicBookChallenge.com or www.drunkduck.com/comicbookchallenge.
