They stripped the 1P Game and just left the maps. I usually don't play many games online (Everquest and Warcraft III are my vices here), so this came as a disapointment, but hey, you know, go with it. So I go online, and they have this godawful pub system. There are plenty of open games, but it takes me a good 5 minutes to find a suitable one, partially because of mispelling and draconian entry rules (CLAN ---- ONLTY NOSMAKT4RDzzz!) and partly because the system may have been designed with slightly more infallable beings in mind. I finally get into a game, and as of the launch week this is how things work.
Player X, Y, and Z are all completely silent and will go about their time changing sides at random, and killing anyone whom they can see. Players P-W are average players whom use speak macros to talk if absolutely necessary. They have some amount of pack behavior and may occasionally work together to take spawn points. More often, though, they will jeep into the middle of enemy territory, end up pinned down by a sniper or tank, and spam "Help Please" to all players in the game until they inevitably die, whereupon they'll either leave the game with a neighbor like "Y00 SUCKZ0RZZ!!" or retreat into a sulken state for a while and then switch teams.
Player A and B are completely inexperienced, but don't want to show it, so they gleefully invite half of your side into a transport chopper, take off, ram into a tree, and then admit they don't know how to pilot a helicopter.
Players C-N will only play as the americans, and only as the M60/LAW Combo. They are either L33T jerks or insecure about their playing ability. (The LAW/M60 combo, for those whom don't know, is a troop whom has a very large gun with a 100 bullet clip AND several rockets + Launcher, making him/her more potent than the assault class for mowing down infantry, and far more effective than the anti-tank class at long range armor destruction. The vietcong side has no viable counterpart)
Player O Is a responsible, honest, and reasonably intelligent person.
The vehicles in the game are basically Transport chopper, attack chopper, Jeep, Light Tank, Heavy Tank, Boat, Fighter Jet.
The boats were a cool idea, but they're loud, slow, barely armored, and big targets. If players want to cross a river, they'll swim or fly. The choppers are easy to get the hang of and hard to master. There are, or were, when I was playing, about three players in the hub at any time whom could pilot an attack chopper to any degree of effectiveness. Transport choppers are cool ideas, but it's almost always safer to just get the gang there by jeep, since T Choppers are the boats of the skies (Big, loud, and unarmored). The Jets can bomb tanks, bring down choppers, and get you across the map faster than anything else, but are so fast you almost always have to keep turning, lest you hit the edge of the map and get autokilled.
I admit that you should take this all with a grain of salt, since it's been a couple months since I've played, and I'm biased (BF 1942 was... ... ... very good), but I can't recomend this game in any capacity. And I'd keep a wary eye on that "Modern Combat" game too, cause if they make them fighters any faster....
