    Re: Games

Gameplay looks about the same, they say they revamped the combat/magic/and stealth engine and that they are way better than in Morrowind. I guess we will have to wait and see about that...

The graphics in that trailer are for the Xbox 360 and they are already 10 times better than Morrowind which makes you drool to think of how much better the PC graphics are going to be.

New features include rideable horses and non-hostile wild life; the horses are a great addition since the world is supposedly way BIGGER than Morrowind.

Here is what the developers have to say about it...

("Since starting this project two years ago, our goal has been to create the quintessential RPG of the next generation," said Todd Howard, executive producer of The Elder Scrolls® series. "We looked back at what we had done with the series, and then looked ahead to what the future of video games could be, and we think this is it."

In keeping with the Elder Scrolls tradition, players will have the option to experience the main quest at their own pace, and there will be plenty of opportunities to explore the vast world and make your own way. Numerous factions can be joined, such as the thieves or mages guilds, and each contains its own complete storyline and the chance to rise to the head of the faction and reap further rewards.

Howard commented, "Our games have always been about great depth and variety in creating any kind of character you want and going out and doing whatever you want." He added, "With Oblivion, we're taking the idea of a virtual fantasy world as far as it will go."

Oblivion features a groundbreaking new AI system, called Radiant AI, which gives non-player characters (NPCs) the ability to make their own choices based on the world around them. They'll decide where to eat or who to talk to and what they'll say. They'll sleep, go to church, and even steal items, all based on their individual characteristics. Full facial animations and lip-synching, combined with full speech for all dialog, allows NPCs to come to life like never before.

Oblivion is a single-player game that takes place in Tamriel's capital province, Cyrodiil. You are given the task of finding the hidden heir to a throne that sits empty, the previous emperor having been killed by an unknown assassin. With no true Emperor, the gates to Oblivion (the equivalent of hell in the world of Tamriel) open, and demons begin to invade Cyrodiil and attack its people and towns. It's up to you to find the lost heir to the throne and unravel the sinister plot that threatens to destroy all of Tamriel.)

... Personally I am really excited about this and I know I'm not the only one.

(EDIT) Oh Yeah, I totally forgot, they also said that they do listen to the fans and here is the proof: There will be NO Cliffracers in Oblivion. Yay no more pointless Cliffracer attacks every five feet!

    Re: Games

Wow! BIGGER! Man, I dont know if my computer can handle it then, since I got this thing in 2002. Thats pretty spectacular news all around though. Morrowind is one of my top gaming experiences of all time, and it soaked up my life for 4 months, being locked in my room doing nothing but Morrowind...and going to class when I had to.

And Im so glad they eliminated the cliffracers. They had to be ranked as one of the most annoying creatures in gaming history along with the mindflayers of Baldurs Gate II and the imps of Diablo II.

I doubt my rig will have any problem running it at it's highest quality I just wish they would hurry up and finish it already. I want to see the new AI in action, it sounds amazing!

    Re: Games

So I was at Costco the other day buying food and drinks for a party I'm having on Friday and I found Splinter Cell: Chaos Theory for about ten bucks less than it usually goes for, so I bought it. I haven't played much of it but I must say it is a very pretty game, nice graphics and sound ect... It's really amazing how many different things you can do in this game, so many ways to dispatch your enemies. I'll write a fuller review once I have played more than five minutes.

    Re: Games

Okay then I finally got around to beating Chaos Theory and I must say Wow, that was a cool game.

    Pros:

This game has very pretty graphics with amazing lighting effects, they are essentially the same as those from Thief: Deadly Shadows with maybe a few minor improvements.

The sound effects and voice work is very well done as well and with the option to turn Native Languages on so that all the characters are speaking in their own languages as opposed to accented English is nice but it would be better if they included subtitles so you could understand them. I recommend leaving the English dialogue on as the ambient conversations can be very funny as are some of the interrogations which are in English either way.

The voice acting is great especially the main character Sam Fisher who is voiced by the great Michael Ironside from the movies Total Recall, Top Gun, and Starship Troopers.

The music is only played when the enemy is aware of you so I only heard a little bit but what I did hear is some cool techno, you can listen to the games music in the extras section though.

The gameplay is very fun, the controls where a bit daunting at first considering there are so many things you can do in this game so many ways to kill or knock out a person but once I started playing it all felt so natural.

To top it all off it's a pretty easy game, I didn't fire a single shot or use a single gadget other than by electronics disrupting thingy and night/thermal vision until the last two missions which pretty much forced me to shoot my way through some enemies who had thermal vision. So I was able to play through 95% of the game without my enemies knowing I was ever there which is how a stealth/espionage game should be.

    CO-OP - Nuff said.

    Cons

The story doesn't feel as strong as it could be, they just don't give it enough feeling and I find myself not really caring if I actually stop WWIII or not.

The ending is kind of a moot point, it isn't a pro or a con; I've seen better endings and I've seen worse. It was some what satisfying even though the story lacked feeling but it had good finality to it as all loose ends where tied up and you knew the character was due for a nice long vacation.

The game was a bit on the short side too, I beat it in about 20 hours maybe less.

Over all this was a great game, definitely one I can see myself playing again some time in the future and I am sure if I had the internet access I would get months of entertainment out of the versus mode.

@ Jwm, How are your boys doing at the game?

@ Tybs, I've just conquered the Iberian Penninsula and now will start my invasion of Gaul.

Well we are doing alright. As the Human Campaign we have reached the final battle, but are having some troubles with the dragons.

As the Orc Campaign we are stuck with trying to destroy the eleven fortress. Damn pointy ears are great at taking out massive amounts of my
troops. Just when I think I have them under control they wipe out my forces and then I don't have enough resources to rebuild and crush them.
