    RE: MUDs

    Your guild level is merely the average of your primary skills (type 'info' at the trainer), and doesn't mean all that much. Anyway....

    • Pick a weapon type and stick to it.
    • Pick a defence type and stick to it, for now. set your 'options tactics response = '. Block is for shields and as a warrior your dodge will likely be weak, as you'll likely be wearing lots of armour. Probably.
    • Speaking of which, get armour to cover your entire body. Clothing offers no protection. Good armour coverage can make a big difference to your survivability. 'coverage unprotected' can help, but I'm not sure whether it counts clothing or not.
    • For completeness, be sure to consider (just con) things you want to kill.
    • Once you feel you're reasonably competent at fighting in AM, you may want to head out onto the roads outside the city. Ensure that you're set to 'walk' and not 'journey' by default, and hunt merchants, dealers and traders. be careful of bandits and such, while not terribly tough they auto-attack, and are sometimes in groups of two or three. My thief takes great plesure in sneaking up to lone bandits and backstabbing them, but cannot handle groups of them. I'm not that much of a fighter though.
    • Learn and use your special attacks. Check Arik's site for the prerequisites.
    • Set your 'wimpy' reasonably high

    That's about all I can think of for now. Keep it up and soon you'll be killing dogs and cats! Note that NPC thieves are an excellent source of money when you can kill them. All that black silk! Of course, as a thief I'm forbidden from touching them... Beware of the Master Thieves though. Mean Mercenaries, and Sailors often have jewellery that you can sell, be careful of other Mercenary and Sailor types, though. Accountants, too, are good cash when you can kill them. Sometimes they hold torches, which makes them much weaker in combat, but can be dangerous if lit.

    I spend my days improving my lame art skills, playing Quake and wishing I had someone to play with, or programming. Tedium is the least of my worries. >}

    RE: MUDs

    Go to Kordane and 'say teach me please'.
    Good choice on Cutpurse.

    Note that you have to let Kordane know you've returned from leave of absence before you can steal in AM

    Following are my aliases. Some are very useful early on. Many use commands that have to be learnt. Ogremindes the Expert Pilferer, Stylish Thief is a follower of Gapp, the god of fine clothing, hence the rituals he can perform.

    RE: MUDs

    I played DuneMUD for a while, got bored as I wanted to be a Titan, and instigate the third age of human suffering.
