    MUDs

Does anyone else on these boards play MUDs? If so which ones? I play the two in my sig: ZombieMUD is a fun Hack-and-Slash with significant newbie areas (I play Myndes the Catfolk Samurai), and Discworld is a very high quality MUD based off the Pratchett series, with more detail than you can poke a custom duelling sword at (At time of writhing Discworld Mud is down. I'm Ogremindes the Thief there).

Okay...bit of a problem, when I hit the "login" button a page of text comes up indicating that in order to create a new character I have to press "C" and after doing so, nothing happens.(this is for Zombie MUD

    MUDs

you have to press enter to send a command through...
    EDIT
Ok. Less flippant. If you're in Telnet your typing wont be displayed on-screen unless you turn echo on.

    RE: MUDs

THANKYOU! I was wondering about the typeing, also what do you do when there are several of one type of monster? Also how do you see your inventory?

    1. Read the newbie guides. They are useful.
    2. Inventory = i. Equipment =eq.
    3. You default to first match. I think you can use e.g. goblin 2.
    4. Using a client is generally better than Telnet. One I've heard alot about is Zmud (never used it. being a Mac person myself I use Cantrip)
    5. Who/What are you? I'm still a newbie myself in Zombie, So grouping is possible.
    6. Note that in Zombie, your inventory isn't saved when you quit. This gives guilds such as Monk (obvious), Samurai (call for sword) and casters a small advantage.

I'm currently "Theunknown", but I think I like playing Discworld better than zombie as it does not require the downloading of a client for best viewing. I'm still trying to generate a character in discworld too.

Ah, yes. the Java client. Very useful that, has a feature that I wish Cantrip has: using up-down to cycle through past commands. There is one thing I don't like about it though: You can't select the text field, meaning no copy-paste. With my mediocre typing skills that's pretty bad.

Well, let me know when you're on Disc proper. As a Thief I have a bit of money kicking around...

Another MUD of interest to me is Aarchon.
This MUD does not take itself seriously and is completely ecclectic, with areas including Cable tv, Holy Grail (complete with vorpal rabbit) and a giant telephone. It has an interesting random quest system, and you tend to level quickly. Both this and Disc save your inventory.
My character on Aarchon is Myndes the half-elf gunslinger.

Alright, in discworld, I'm Blank...I hope to become a wizard...where should I start?

A wizard eh? Not the easiest guild to start in, to be sure. Anyways, the Unseen Uni is in Ankh-Morpork. Starting in the Drum, if the Urchin is there say "Take me to the Wizard's Guild please". If that doesn't work say "Help Urchin"

If there is no urchin wander out of the Drum, then in an easterly direction 'til you find the Plaza of Broken Moons, then North to Sator Square, UU being off the Northeast of that.

Be sure to get the map of AM of Airk's site (see the player links off the Disc site)

Oh, and look at 'help colour' (or maybe color).

okay, now I'm a wizard with a pointy hat(and a handy map) where do I learn spells?

The gym and the library. You need to open the book to the relevant page and 'remember from ' Note that most spells have a material component. to cast. Start with the Lance spell and the Field of Protection from the gym, then any others you can fit from the same tome. Try and find the student lounge and advance your magic skills. In AM search and kill the rats and ****roaches that turn up, sell stuff that you find. One of the gym spells can insta-kill rats.

You're a wizard. the point is that they suck at the start and even at middling levels but have the greatest potential.
