    Good call.

Back on the Jan. 12, 2005 thread, when I complained about how I thought Grace was being selfish by coercing the others to transform, while lying to Ellen about why she couldn't, Dan wrote this in response.

To Grace, being transformed isn't that big of a deal....

Ellen's the one who is actually being a bit selfish here. Unlike Grace, Ellen understands that even a temporary transformation can be upsetting for most people, and if you think that the fact that Ellen herself is "technically trasnformed" isn't a factor in her liking the idea of everyone else being transformed and having to deal with it, then you're ALMOST as naive as Grace.

I still think this party will end in some sort of train wreck, despite Grace's "No Angst" guarantee.

Hey, toots.  Can you get me a beer?

Okay, I know El Goonish Shive is a strange comic, and Moperville is a weird town....

But when the Demonic Duck changes from a gag into just another resident who interacts with the other characters -- we have reached new heights in High Weirdness.  I love it!  LOL!!!

Now I'm wondering if he's the only Demonic Duck in Moperville.  Maybe they really do have a union.  LOL!!!!!

Ellen's been hurt pretty deeply by this.  Although she might have Elliot's memories, she does not share Elliot's feelings about Sarah.  Bewteen the mocking in the last episode and the "you're taking her side" in this, Ellen is hurt by someone she doesn't seem to particularly like.  It's not the hurt of betrayal, but more a "how dare she!" kind of hurt.

Tender move by Mr. Nanase, but there seems to be more of a divide than he had anticipated.

Dan: Nice use of symbolism in panels 7 - 9.

(many doors to choose from / a chasm divides two lives / crossing the line)

BTW, I'll be away until the New Year.  So I'd like to wish Dan and all the bunnies a

    VERY MERRY CHRISTMAS!!!!!

12/28:  Sarah's not very good at making up excuses on the spur of the moment.  Love Grace's antennae in panel five.

12/30:  Good for Sarah to have realized what she'd done without anyone telling her.  Love the symmetry of the hand gestures in this panel five.

    HAPPY NEW YEAR!!!

Jan. 2:  I love how the Demonic Duck of Some Sort has integrated himself into the flow of the plot.  "Scab."  ROTFLMHO!!!

Jan. 4:  I was so happy to see Sarah and Ellen reconciled!  Ellen was feeling so bad in panel one of the Jan. 2nd comic, it's nice that she's not feeling hurt anymore -- and is able to concentrate on pizza!  LOL!!!

Sarah's ability to come up with halfway-convincing explanations quickly seems to have improved.  "Slap slap slap."  LOL!!!

Grace's logic is astonishing!  Wonderful strip, Dan!!!

And I'm glad somebody's curious about that Demonic Duck of some sort.  ROTFL!!!!

Hmmm.  Or is all this just a ruse by Dan to delay Sarah's zappiness???

Re: Story: Bending Genders: Jan. 9, 2006

    FINALLY!!!!

After being the most eager, and then the most reluctant, Sarah has triggered the zapper.

Grace TFs all the time, so her transformation should not be such a big (and melodramatic) deal, and may even happen off-camera.

So now, after all of those subplots and distractions, we've essentially got all the legitimate -- I mean all the human partygoers transformed!

(I've changed my avatar to celebrate.  LOL!!!)

Mr. Sarah is quite the cutie.

Since the TFs were supposed to be influenced by the clothes their friends brought, I think Grace is going to have to do a bit of adjusting to get Mr. Sarah to fit into Elliot's clothes -- unless maybe Elliot brought some old clothes.  LOL!!!

Re: Story: Bending Genders: Jan. 11, 2006

Okay, so Elliot's clothes are not from when he was in middle school. Grace will have to make Sarah grow a couple of inches.  Somehow, that seems like cheating.

Panels Three through Six are hilarious!!!  Suave, debonaire Mr. Sarah woos Missy Elliot off her feet.  The waiter is great!!!  I can just hear him saying, "Oui, and would mademoiselle like anything else?"  ROTFLMHO!!!!!

    Love Mr. Sarah's deer-in-the-headlights look.

Re: Story: Bending Genders: Jan. 13, 2006

    Wow!  Mr. Grace is gorgeous!

I was wondering what Dan would do about his antennae.  Good idea to keep his hair generally long.  Nice sideburns.

    "No need to discuss that!"

LOL!!!  Given the usual EGS post-zap situation, I wonder if any of those small outfits are doll sized?

"I'm an expert on wearing clothes that don't fit properly!"

LOL!!!  But that look is good on Grace!

Smart move by Sarah not to have a second TF.

EDIT: Okay, about this "sizing their form to fit the loaned clothes" thing.

In the 8/11/05 comic, Tedd (w/ Grace) says "one of us has to be down there" to "make adjustments so the clothes will fit right."

So I thought that the TF would go something like this: the people go into the booth and the first TF gun changes them to how they would look if they'd been born to the opposite sex.  Then Grace or Tedd uses the second TF gun to tweak their size to fit the loaned clothing.

But if it was a matter of just turning a dial on the TF gun or punching some size numbers into it or something like that, then why couldn't Tedd or Grace do that and then go back upstairs and leave the person to TF in complete privacy?  Why did one of them have to remain downstairs?

Sure, it makes sense as a safety precaution -- but the reason they give is to make the clothes fit.

    I'm confused again.

Re: Story: Bending Genders: Jan. 16, 2006

Love panel six.  Everyone looks shocked, except Tedd, who looks worried.

Sarah's clothes look worse now than in the previous episodes.  Before, they just looked too big -- here they look rumpled and disheveled, too.

Poor Sarah!  He's so cute, but because of the clothing snafu he looks sorta childish, younger than the others.

"If the end of your sentence was going to be 'antennae' ...."  ROTFL!!!

Re: Story: Bending Genders: Jan. 18, 2006

Mr. Grace's antennae seem to be growing!  They weren't that big in the Jan. 13 episode.  And his Jan. 13th antennae are only a little larger than her regular antennae

So I don't understand why Grace is suddenly so clumsy with them.  As a girl, Grace also wears her pony tail high up, but we've never seen her hit anyone with either her antennae or her pony tail.

I was afraid Mr. Sarah might be shorter than Missy Elliot -- glad that's not the case.

    Panel eight is sweet.

Re: Story: Bending Genders: Jan. 20, 2006

Panel One is so sweet, I hope it isn't an exaggeration.  LOL!  And I hope it's through Mr. Sarah's and Missy Elliot's eyes -- but it's more likely the product of Miss Justin's jealousy in Panel Two.

At first, I thought her bossy outburst in Panel Three was just trying to spoil things between Sarah and Eliot -- but when I got to Panel Six, I saw that she had good reason to shout.  Dial, Tedd, dial!!!
