    RE: Games you should play

Old School Baby!  Perhaps you have heard of these old titles.

    PC/DOS (Old)

    Action-------------------------------------------------------------------

One Must Fall 2097: 80ft robot fighting action.

    Jazz Jackrabbit: Old side scroller

Jill of the Jungle: #1 Shareware hit of '94

    Commander Keen: Goodbye Galaxy

Bio Menace: ID Software's first game engine!

Tyraen: Epic's first big shoot-em-up for DOS

    Puzzlers------------------------------------------------------------------

Hexxagon: You may have played this game online but it started out as an old PC-DOS game.

    Xixit:  A Columns Clone

    Role Playing Games--------------------------------------------------------

Castle of the Winds: An old icon styled RPG for Windows 3.x.

Solar Winds:  A complex space RPG for DOS

    Nintendo 8 Bit Games-------------------------------------------------------

River City Ransom:  Technos Jp's most successful game before their company went down the crapper. Doh! After a while I got good at setting up combinations in this game.

Ninja Gaiden: The first game IMO to offer anime cut scenes.

Golgo 13:  Classic spy action and cut scenes.

Megaman 2:  I will forever love this one above all the other Megamans out there.  This was the best sound track I have ever heard on the Nintendo.

Tecmo Bowl 1 &2:  I dont need to explain this!

1943: My favorite WWII shoot em up!

Kung-Fu: Yeah very old and simple and still kicks ask!

Kirby's Adventure: IMO, had the nicest graphics next to Super Mario 3.

    Super Nintendo

Super Punch Out: My favorite of all time... don't ask why but it is my favorite.

Street Fighter II Turbo:  There were so many crazy combinations you could do in that version that it kept the game interesting for a while until kicking the crap out of the cpu player got boring.

FFII (USA): It was the soundtrack that first got my attention and then got dragged in. FFIII was ok, but the world getting messed up already got my guessing that this would be the result in the future episodes too.

Super Mario World: The one and only.

Final Fight 3: The third installment was the coolest thought I wish Capcom would have followed up on the two new characters introduced in the game. Oh well.

Play Station: Never owned one, never cared

Nintendo 64: Never cared for that either.

    Game Cube:

NBA 2K2: I would often put this game into demo mode while guests were over at my place.  I would peer into the living room watching them huddled around the set watching it as if it were a real game on tv.

SSMB: Defenity a top pick.  There some characters are exteremely unbalanced and used by every skilless cheapskate out there, it is still an awesome game.

Capcom VS SNK2: This release has a good variety of my favorite characters.  I like use the characters that are hard and challenging to control.  Usually Zangief because he is classic pavement-cracking fun!

    Arcade Games:

Basicly almost everything in the Street Fighter, Marvel VS ...., Capcom VS SNK, Fatal Fury, Art of Fighting, KOF, series... Ive played them all and have made SNK and Capcom rich when I was younger.  I stopped playing them when I got too ticked off when the tournaments became overflooded with n00bs who would just master whoever was easy and unbalanced. I remained true to my colors but the waste of quarters just wasnt worth it.   I still pop in now and then when there are not many people.

DDR: Havent played it in a while, but it got me from 280 to 220.  I still gotta try the Korean step version

Metal Slug: For some reason 2d side scrolling shoot-em-up action games never go out of style thanks to this game.  It is the perfect game for the side of us that sometimes wants to rush in and blow everything up like theres no tomorow.  Very satisfying.

    PC Games (Newer)

    Wolfenstein: Enemy Territory

    Final Fantasy XI

    Ragnarok Online

UT2004:  I absolutely love Invasion. It gets me pumped when I get into it.

Chromium: A simple GL based shoot-em-up that comes with RedHat and most other flavors of Linux/BSD

    Real Life Games

Euchre, Insane Eights, Gin Rummy, Cribbage

IronMan Laser Tag: Theres rounds can last up to an hour in a 3 story maze.  It is insanely exhausing and youll find yourself going for rushing to sniping while catching your breath but there is never a dull moment when you got 20 other guys chasing you.

Thats it for my list... I hope some people remember some of those old PC games.

Yep, and www.omf.com in the faq there's a download link. I still prefer the old one, more of an RPG game, and I was the master of the Jaguar. The new Jaguar has been furriefied, and just reminds me of twinks with broadswords.

    Jazz Jackrabbit: Old side scroller

Jazz Jackrabbit 2 is so much better, and iv'e been looking for where to get it for ages.

Jill of the Jungle: #1 Shareware hit of '94

    Commander Keen: Goodbye Galaxy.

All Commander Keen games were good, ID ought to make a sequel. Fact: BJ Blaskovicks (whatver he's called, the guy you play in Wolfenstein3d) is Billy Blaze's grandfather.

Bio Menace: ID Software's first game engine!

I remember this game vaguly, but keep confusing it with halloween harry.

Tyraen: Epic's first big shoot-em-up for DOS

Tyrian! And they made overkill before then, but overkill was unplayable, it was like piloting the titanic through cowley rush hour traffic.

Solar Winds: A complex space RPG for DOS

I love this game, but epic classics want to charge $30 for it!

Metal Slug: For some reason 2d side scrolling shoot-em-up action games never go out of style thanks to this game. It is the perfect game for the side of us that sometimes wants to rush in and blow everything up like theres no tomorow. Very satisfying.

    Best. Platformer. Ever!

Laser Tag is nice, but paintball is better. It annoys me how I can shoot someone half a dozen times in their chest before they power down. If I shot someone half a dozen times in paintball, they'd be hurting.

One Must Fall 2097, Raptor, Solar Winds, Jazz Jackrabbit, Bio Menace...*sighs* God I miss the old DOS games, especially Solar Winds. Curse Windows XP...

    RE: Games you should play

Ah, the good old days. I wasted so much of my childhood playing OMF. I r00led all with Shadow. I could do the finishing moves off by heart It was the first shareware game I actually bought, closely follwed by Raptor: Call of the Shadows. Which, incidentally, was also fantastic. Pity the new OMF really sucks.

    RE: Games you should play

They desecrated the glory of the Jaguar, but at least the Katana was still playable.

And as for new games, finally I have an RTS which I like as much as TA, well almost as much. I remember playing the demo of TA for months on end, every green pixel of those Empyerran maps became lodged into my head. I can draw them by heart, name every unit, weapon and sound effect they used, and it's been over 7 years.

DoW makes me think "I wonder if someone will make a Tau/Nid's mod for it?" And finding there's already Tau in the works.

    RE: Games you should play

In OMF2097, I LOVED the Shadow, and also that one with the elbow blade thingies that was kinda hunched...was it called the Thorn? I can't remember...but that game rocked...interactive environments, giant robots, great AI, a good collection of bots...I also liked the fact that it was a robot fighting game that didn't relay on rocket launchers, vulcan guns etc. but on mostly melee attacks. It was like Battlebots meets Mechwarrior in a way. Man, if we could only see a good 3d version of it...and what about Solar Winds? You play as a mercenary with his own fighter-type spaceship(which reminded me a lot of a larger X-wing) and the game was pretty much freeform. I still remember in the first mission, the one where you had to capture the scientist, you could destroy his ship, let him onboard, destroy his ship and deliver him to his planet, or let him onboard and deliver him back to the guy who hired you...in other words, be the strict, no-nonsense mercenary or show a little human compassion...the fights with the rebel ships were always intense, you could upgrade your ship in so many ways, not to mention shift energy between your systems and switch your shield settings, there were so many missions to take, you had an entire galaxy to explore...everything about that game rocked. I would like to see an update of that as well, with voice acting...

    You should all play Morrowind.

You don't need to play any other games.

Morrowind is definitely an excellent game!

    RE: Games you should play

Speaking of RPGs, you should play Fallout. It's kinda like the game of Mad Max. I've yet to find an RPG where there was as much stuff to do in it as the Fallout series. Plus the freedom of choice was immense; you could wonder round killing children if wanted. Fallout: Possibly my favourite game ever. Although, for heaven's sake, don't p*ss off the fans; they are a rabid bunch who, for Fallout 3, effectively want Fallout 2. Again. With the same EVERYTHING. Crazee fools.

    RE: Games you should play

I thought feelings towards Fallout 2 were more mixed. It's a good game on it's own, but it doesn't quite have the 'feel' that F1 created. Talking deathclaws come to mind as something best forgotten.

    RE: Games you should play

I would agree with you... For instance, there was a bit in FO where you're staying in a hotel, and your rest is interuppted by a hostage situation. Nothing like that happened in FO2. If only FO had had as few bugs in as FO2...

    RE: Games you should play

Fallout 2 is pretty buggy... I've had to restart from the beginning twice now. Once, when my saves got corrupted in a tight fight, and another where the car simply vanished, with the voice module in the boot. I now use all the save slots as I go.

    RE: Games you should play

Didn't you read the manual? I did that from the beginning... And was still shafted after I installed the patch as it invalidated all my save games. My favourite bug was where your car disappears except for the boot, which follows you round everywhere. Spooky...

    RE: Games you should play

On another note about more recent games, I think LOTR: Battle for Middle Earth is a sweet game. Anyone played it? I like Gondor. Gandalf is sweet. I like Faramir too. The graphis are good and the gameplay is even nicer.
I have to put this in again???
    Phoey.
