Traditionally, Identify Friend/Foe. Most of the time that refers to a signal a ship broadcasts that includes its name and loyalties so others can properly decide if it is an ally or enemy in time of war.

More likely to have a fake one that can switch between multiple names or be shut off. No IFF is a big tip that something's funky with your ship, so you only want it off when you don't want to be seen at all rather than look inconspicuous.

Yeah...that's more what I was thinkin'. You ever read the Grand Admiral Thrawn Star Wars book trilogy? Like what Karde and his group do with their ships, fake signals that give ship descriptions and whatnot. That's probably what I'll have my ship do.

Another idea is what whats-her-face (the one pretending to know Luke's mother) did in Black Fleet Crisis, using a transponder that randomly changed its code every jump.

Yeah, how it's going to work on mine is it's going to have a fake name and all that whatnot that can be changed whenever they need it to. Good books those .

Oh yeah, where's Amnethyst Butterfly? I'm sort of waiting for him/her to make a post in the Elves in Space forum so we can move it along. That is her ship that I'm looking at right now.

Minotaur:  While I'm not absolutely sure, I think that that smuggler ship had most of it's systems disabled, except for the engines, lifesupport, and IFF.  The IFF on the smuggler ship is also, in a sense, screaming 'I'M A PIRATE!', which means it's probably not a good idea to stick about for too long, other then Ryv doesn't seem to be sending any of the Systems security in that direction for the moment.

Woops, I musta missed that part Qesun. Err, will anyone object if I just change my current posts as Amnethyst hasn't done anything yet, because if the thing was screaming I'm a pirate then my sensor guy would've picked it up.

Edit: Well I went ahead and edited them. The stuff in my first post is labeled what was changed. The entire second one was changed, but no one had posted after that one so that's ok I do believe. Any objections and I'll change them back. But I don't think I changed anything too huge.

Greetings... Im looking to create a short rp in an urban setting. I need one teenage/young adult person to act as a baby sitter for D.O.R.A.  Some parts are premeditated, others are freeform. Give a reply if interested.

Meh.  My character has been growing a soft side recently, and the player is growing board.  Why not.  I'll look after the kid.

I don't suppose someone could attempt to move the Elves In Space story along...I mean, someone can react to my tight-beam scan, or the law-forces could move in to get the "WE'RE PIRATES" IFF signal.
