DP got me thinking about this: Why do we bother living?

Just for the sake of living. Plus the mere thought of death tends to creep a lot of people out.

As I said in the whatcha doing thread a while back, my philosophy on the point of life, is to live until you die. My philosophy when looking at bad situations is that they could always be worse, as at least I'm still alive, and if I wasn't, it wouldn't matter anymore. My philosophy on the meaning of life is that we shouldn't waste time trying to find out the meaning of life.

I don't really think there is a meaning. And if there is, it's obviously so hard to understand that it isn't meant to be understood.

Great. So we live because theres nothing else we can do? Thats like saying: "Here, eat these worms, its all you'll be getting."

The meaning of life...is to live.  To just live your life.  And once you are done with that life, you die.   

 

It's that simple.  There's no incredibly complex reasoning for it.

Meaning of life? It isn't anything spiritual or meaningful. It's not something that will make you go "Oh, I understand now! Thank you Dalai Terra for revealing the truth. I was so blind!" It isn't something big and magical that will make everything okay. You sure you want to know?

Sex.

And I don't mean that "Oh, let's go out and PARTAY!!!" kind of sex. I mean coming together to make a child. We all exist to propogate our species, to ensure its survival. The meaning of life is to bring more life into this world, so that they may do the same.

that's a good point terra, but i think we are over mere necesities, i mean, well, i don't know if there's meaning of my existenc, i prefer just to live, and enjoy my stay in this world, i don't believe in afterlife, so i try to be my won god, i know it sounds selfish..and kinda creepy, but it's kinda my philosophy......i can be all of you people's god, if you want to...hehe

In a religous stand point, we're bascially God's favorite toys and we just go on makin' more toys.

In an atheistic stand point...there is no purpose for anything...

I'll stick to being a nice little toy...at leasts it a purpose...*squeek*

If what Terra Drake says is true, then life really is meaningless. We live to create life, what do our children do? They also live to create life.... What a depressingly pointless cycle.
