    RE: Meaning of life

well, i think the meaning of life, is completely personal, nobody can tell you what to do with your life, or why are you here, you have to realize it for yourself

    RE: Meaning of life

Maybe there isn't a meaning to life because life itself wasn't meant to be? Maybe it's just a freak chemical accident?

    RE: Meaning of life

    Maybe. Maybe. Maybe.

The meaning behind life could be anything except nothing. There is a reason behind, otherwise it wouldn't be. Life, for whatever reason, seeks to push itself forward, and continue existing, as Drake said, but that is what it does, that is not why it does.

I personally believe that a sentient force is guiding life, for a purpose, since life is going... somewhere... through evolution... or what have you, it is changing... but I refuse to divulge any further than that, lest I escape from theory and just wallow around in "maybe"s.

    RE: Meaning of life

Do you really think so ?

Look around you ! The world is really going to hell ! The violence is increasing, we will probably run out of oil and drinkable water pretty soon, new viruses are always striking, there is the global warming and the holes on the ozone layer, and if we don't die or kill ourselves the sun will engulf us in a few million years ! Apparently the only meaning of life is death. We live to die.

Well, erm, I guess I am kind of apocalyptic today... but that's how I see it...

    RE: Meaning of life

Run out of drinkable water? What kind of trash is that? We can purify the damned water, expensive as it might well be, and the combustion engine is a relic of one-hundred years ago, I have no worries about our ability to replace it, the bigots at the oil industry and the president will string us along, but the worst it will get in the next few years is them jacking up the price to roll in more green.

Most people don't believe in global warming, and the hole in the Ozone layer is hardly an apocalyptic event, if anything, we need more skin cancer, humanity be damned, those of us too idiotic to wear sunscreen to the beach should be cut out of the gene pool.

While I'm sure that a few million years is a blink of the eye in terms of Earth, (that's what opinionated scientists keep telling us, right?) I'm sure we'll have found and advanced to another planet by then, (According to Mr. President, it might even be in our lifetimes! )

We don't live to die, we die to live. More generations faster= more genetic progress.

    RE: Meaning of life

We live in order to attain happiness.

How you attain happiness is specific to you; you must find that on your own.  As long as you are alive, you have a chance of attaining happiness, and that chance it what keeps people going.

    RE: Meaning of life

I've been in a number of threads with this exact same topic. I hear a lot of the same answers, but no one ever seems to agree.

I think it's a silly question, really. The meaning of life? Why do you WANT your life to have a "meaning"? If you have a destiny, then you don't have total control of what you do in your time on this planet. The way I see it, the lack of of a "meaning" in life is a GOOD thing- you can do whatever you choose with your life, you don't have to fufil anything.

    That's my philosophy, anyway.

    RE: Meaning of life

I want my life to have meaning because then I'd have something good to balance out all the **** I currently have.

    RE: Meaning of life

There's really a simple answer for that, Spree. MAKE your life have meaning. I don't mean to sound corny or anything, but what we do, (So I believe, anyways) is in our hands. We can choose to make something of it, or just let it sit there. The reason most people complain is because they don't make anything of their life. We're all here to serve a purpose (Yet again, so I believe) and sometimes it just takes us a while to find it. It doesn't have to be anything big, perhaps some lives just add up the little things to make a larger purpose.

    Hope I didn't sound too preachy right there ^^;;

Already covered this ground: I have no ability that is useful to society.

    RE: Meaning of life

Does it really HAVE to be useful to society? I think it can be useful to yourself or anyone else.

    RE: Meaning of life

My guess is that we live to pleasure ourselves... I mean we go to school. Why do we go to school ? To get a job. Why do we get a job ? To get money. Why do we have money ? 1) For basic needs. 2) To have fun, to obtain pleasure.
The moment life stops pleasuring you, your life loses its meaning and you are as good as dead.

However, this world is so ****ed up that getting a (decent) job, earning money and obtaining pleasure just keep getting harder and harder.

    Life isn't about money.

    RE: Meaning of life

For some it is. Others don't have it as a focus. That would seem to point to the "you make your own destiny" point.
