RE: Are any other Americans sick and tired of our political system?

I live in the netherlands. Our political system is a litle bit different then that of the US. We have a queen, but she hardly has any power at all. Perhaps if she would put her foot down for something she cares greatly about it might have some influence on affairs. The daily goverment is made out of two parlements (dont know if that is the correct word.) and a prime minister. Those make the decisions. We get to vote for wich party gets the most seats in the parlement. Thankfully this is a bit more diverse then just the republikins and democrats (and green party that I heard redux talking about). We have many different party's but usually is about three different that have the main group of seats (and power) in the parlements. Some time ago we had a new politician that had (according to most people but not me.) great views and wanted to change most policy's in the netherlands, like about refugees from other countrys and such. He and his party went for a massive sweep and ruled the elections. Untill a few days for the elections he got shot dead. Its a shame such things still happen. Even though I did not agree with his visions I also strongly believe in freedom of speach. His party still won the elections though...and messed up big time.... Well at least it was a change of pace. It let the other party's now what the dutch voters thought was important...

    *gasp*

RE: Are any other Americans sick and tired of our political system?

I'm really against the two party system, not just because of what it potentially does to the political system, but also how it pressures people into supporting certain values and ethics. Sure, there are some ethics out there that deserve to be pushed on America a little bit, but people who devoutly follow a party can treat it like a religion and whether or not you want to believe or contest that religions fuilfill their own purpose--it's certainly not the (desired) purpose of a political party to fulfill that role. Bunch of people who sit around and feel it's blasphemy to question the prophets of their own political party or listen to the words of another party, that doesn't strike me as reponsible politics.

I know people who think I'm a liberal democrat ( ) and I know people who think I'm a republican conservative ( ). I refuse to be either but most people act like I have no choice. You have to work hard to be an individual in this country (like manyh others I'm sure).

Well anyway, I like to make fun of all sides, so no one likes me anyway.

And about this "Anyone but Bush" thing. Who? Hitler? A serial killer? I mean, I want Bush out too but that's just plain silly...

Eh, Foreigners and convicted felons cannot be elected president anyhoo, so....

There are people out there whom starkly claim Bush to be the next hitler. That Cheney and Co. are using Bush as a figurehead, and possibly to take the blame while they set to work their nefarious plots.

Then again, there are also people whom believe that the government is trying to control our minds through tap water.

RE: Are any other Americans sick and tired of our political system?

Well, that is a very good point... none of those people could run for president... hmm... I guess you could hypothetically argue that he may or may not be the worst possible legal candidate... but I would still get really uncomfortable if I saw a ballot that said= Check one: O - Bush | O - Other

I just have so much disgust for all that happened during that World War II time though that I still get a little sick when I see somethign like signs that say: "Bush and Hitler are the same!" How old are these people? Are they experts of some sort on that era? Do they know something I don't? Seems mostly just like propaganda to me ("who is the worst possible person we could compare this guy too that we don't like... hmm....").

RE: Are any other Americans sick and tired of our political system?

There are more than just 2 parties...those are just the most popular...and the ones with the most money...

And that's why you don't see independents pretty much at all...(money talks)
    ...wee?

And that last line from Akira is the truth . Politics in most if not all western company's are ruled by money making.

RE: Are any other Americans sick and tired of our political system?

hmm.. I don't have much to say political standing wise.. all I know is I want Bush out of the White House.

I don't know about y'all.. but Clinton was a good president (aside from sexual misconduct)... and the economy was at an all time high if I rememeber right.

RE: Are any other Americans sick and tired of our political system?

"So you want someone whom doesn't care about the people's opinions but instead uses the country's resources to further his or her personal ambitions?"

Isn't that what most of the US presidents does?

BTW, how can the US be the land of Democracy? when half of the country don't vote, it's not a democracy, it's a majority-dictatorship...

anyway... I think you should do as we do... have a government with multiple parties, and then let them run the country as a kind of counsel... without a president who can overrule everything!

RE: Are any other Americans sick and tired of our political system?

Everybody, I want you to remember this.

THE USA IS NOT A DEMOCRACY! IT IS A REPUBLIC!
We just say democracy to make our peoples feel better. The states themselves are democratic, but the overall country is a republic. Democracies cannot be run effeciently in large lands such as the United States. So we UNITE, and form a larger government to make sure that our STATES stay gewd.

"BTW, how can the US be the land of Democracy? when half of the country don't vote, it's not a democracy, it's a majority-dictatorship..."

    Two things:
    One...
Ever hear the phrase, majority rules, the law will now be active.

    Two...
And YOU'VE ALWAYS HAD THE CHANCE TO VOTE!
It's weither you are smart enough to excersise that right.
    ...wee?

RE: Are any other Americans sick and tired of our political system?

Its not whether you exercise the right to vote, its whether or not there is anyone worth voting for. Which there isn't. By not voting (or spoiling a vote) you are making a statement that this political system sucks. If enough people don't vote, there will have to be some serious changes made, hopefully for the better.
