    Re: Baseball Rant thread

It seems to me that many sports fans around the country are getting out of control. I thought this stuff only happened at soccer matches. I am hoping I don't have to explain to my boys why the man behind us smells really bad, talks to loud, is being mean to other people and yells at the baseball players.  But I guess when I was growing up and going to Seahawks games there was that guy in the gorilla suit that was always sitting a few rows away. He was wierd.Indifferent [:|]

Would you have preferred the John 3:16 guy?

No the gorilla guy was okay just wierd. I mean we had season tickets for probably 5 years and he wore the suit to every game and we never saw who was under it.Pizza [pi]

Wow, so did he make appearances from beyond that year? :D

There are fans like that from town to town. Tampa Bay has the extremely noisy heckler, Philly is the Padilla Flotilla, and Seattle has the gorilla suit man

    Re: Baseball Rant thread

Baseball is cool. Just you don't want to have to be stuck watching it should it get boring. I kind of like to listen on the radio. Then I can tune it out if I am bored.

I usually like to listen/watch the beginning of a game until a hit is recorded by each team. Then I know the no-hitter is off and the game is not so exciting any more. I don't know why the no-hitter has so much appeal to me. Maybe it is the tension and building level of excitement as a game goes on.

Though I am going to see a few games this year in person I am taking my kids and if it gets boring then we can leave and I can use them as an excuse. Smile [:)]

    Re: Baseball Rant thread

Me, Im more of a hitters fan, mainly because thats actually what I can do in baseball--but its also thrilling to hear the crack of the bat and the ball properly placed in the outfield getting runs to score across the plate, or even better, plastering that baseball over the outfield wall as all runs score.

Its a game of skill, strategy and strength

I like the no-hitter too, thats so difficult to do, and as you say it does get very nerve wracking in the closing innings. I was fortunate enough to see the Cardinals and the Red Sox hurl no hitters in my lifetime, those are thrilling.

Going to the game is even better, you can feel the atmosphere of the fans, you can feel the energy of the game and you can actually see the talented players make their great plays and hit their homers and strike batters out while you still get to enjoy some classic italian sausages wrapped in some nice chewy french bread with sweet peppers.

For one day, all 6-8 strangers surrounding you are your best friends though you'll probably never see them again. Still when the hometeam scores a run or strikes a big batter out, you'll be high fiving them, etc.

    Great stuff.

Yes, that is the environment that I am hoping to catch with my kids this next Wednesday. A's and Mariner's 7:05pm (pacific) start time. They are battling for last place in the division.

    Re: Baseball Rant thread

Well since it is being preceeded by the great rivalry of the SF Bay teams this weekend I am kind of figuring it won't be overly populated. But since you can get something like 100,000 people into the Oakland Colusieum even if it was a hot game you would not feel crowded.

Right, that is a massive stadium. Fenway can only seat 35,000. Tickets here are rare and very expensive, even for the bleachers!

    Re: Baseball Rant thread

I have always like the smaller venues. They just bring everbody into the game. Though I did grow up watching the Mariners in the Kingdom. M first game was on the 400 level at the very top of the stadium. You could almost see the players way down on the field. Though I was probably only 7 or 8 and more interested in running up and down the steps.

sorry Jwm, you cannot corrupt my Canadian pride, because I am a hockey fan, and I had my heart broken for the lack of hockey and the stupid lockout
