    RE: Auto Racing (revived)

I don't think so...admitedly my memory wasn't as it once was but it was a wet race and Toyota being on Michelin tyres probably would have only lead if they were pitting out of order. WHo knows it may have happened...

Damn...I was almost sure it was a Toyota, but whats more is that I always get Button and Panis confused

I can understand getting Ralf and Michael Schumacher confused, I can understand getting Martin Brundle and Mark Blundell confused, even team mates is understandable but Button and Panis? They don't have simliar names, they aren't team mates, they don't lookalike heck they aren't even from the same country! LOL.

They both finish in rougly the same spot, and have some rare first name. (Previous to Panis, The only other Olivier I know is Olivier Baretta, and I know no other Jenson out there)

Olivier Baretta? I think I've heard of him. I think he (or at least someone with a similar name) was in F1 back in 1994 where he drove 13 races for the Larrousse team. What does Baretta do?

Well, hes sort of been all over the place. Most recently, I think Ive seen him in the American Le Mans series, or the Sports car series. He has been in a few NASCAR races--basically acting as a road course specialist. He made the Sears Point race a couple years ago, and when the trucks went to road courses, he made those races too, driving for Bobby Hamilton racing.

So yeah, hes still doing this and that around racing

That's good to hear he is still in racing. He never really made an impression on F1 except with his wallet, something Larrousse needed that season, Olivier didn't score any points and was out paced by his more experienced team mate Erik Comas. I think he went into sportcars and may have even got a class win at Le Mans.

That wouldnt surprise me at all. He almost won a truck race, too, but cut a tire while running 2nd. I dont remember where he finished that day.

Le Mans isnt something I watch, but I know of its prestige. Scott Pruett won last year or the year before. I was really happy for him. One of the coolest guys in motorsports

    RE: Auto Racing (revived)

I've just read that there are doubts already about Freddie Loix's future at Peugeot. This is ridiculous, he's only had one and a half rallies! You can't judge him by that! For his sake I hope that he starts putting in some good results so he keeps his works place with Peugeot.

I've also read some good news about Jeremy Mayfield. He drew pole for the Bud shootout and looking down the times Jamie McMurray got 3rd. Do you think Mayfield has got a chance of winning the race?

    Budweiser Shootout starting grid

    2 Jeff Gordon Chevrolet
    3 Jamie McMurray Dodge
    4 Dave Blaney Dodge
    5 Kevin Harvick Chevrolet
    6 Terry Labonte Chevrolet
    7 Mark Martin Ford
    8 Boris Said Chevrolet
    9 Elliott Sadler Ford
    10 Bill Elliott Dodge
    11 Rusty Wallace Dodge
    12 Bobby Labonte Chevrolet
    13 Mike Skinner Chevrolet

    18 Tony Stewart Chevrolet
    19 Dale Earnhardt Jr Chevrolet

    RE: Auto Racing (revived)

Wow....talk about a no tolerance policy. Give the guy a break...hes spent all of his career behind a Hyundai...he needs to learn how it feels to go fast before he can get roughly where Grunholm is. Id say give him AT LEAST 5 rallies, if not, than most certainly more. Man, it would suck to see him get the boot because of 1.5 rallies...He didnt even do too bad in that first rally.

Well thats an interesting lineup. The favorite for the race starts last too

Yeah, Mayfield has a chance to win. Everybody does. The way this race is setup is that if you nail the first half of the race, you still may not even do well in the finish. I remember a couple of dominant cars a couple years ago both lost in different ways. One car had a poor pitstop--end of his chances to win. Then the other driver had come out in roughly 2nd, but they knew how good he was, so everybody worked against him. By the end of it, nobody will really know who'll be on top.

Incidently, Ive picked Jamie McMurray to win, so Ive got hope in my heart!

But the starting order, while it is nice to see there, doesnt mean much. Theres so many changes for position at Daytona, that the way they start the jostling doesnt mean a whole lot.

    RE: Auto Racing (revived)

Loix definitely deserves more time to get used to the car. He hasn't just driven for Hyundai though. He started off in the WRC driving a non-works Toyota Corolla and came to fame by often beating the works drivers, Didier Auriol and Carlos Sainz. He then switched to a works drive for Mitsubishi but suffered terrible luck and then Mitsubishi switched from a Group A spec car to WRC spec and the car wasn't good. Loix then went to Hyundai. Incidently Freddie Loix is now no longer Belgian. Apparently he's taken up citizenship of the United Arab Emrites because he lives there.

Whoa...A UAE driver. That flag will certainly look different next to his name.

    RE: Auto Racing (revived)

I was rather shocked to learn that he had switched nationalities like that, especially to the UAE but I guess being Belgian is rather boring especially when you're surrouded by all those exciting countries like France, Luxembourg, Holland and Germany.

Id rather go to Belgium than France or Luxembourg

But theres nothing wrong with the UAE, just a very warm climate, and sort of desert like in the inland.

    RE: Auto Racing (revived)

What's wrong with Luxembourg? They are trully one of the great nations of the world!

At least it now means that Freddie Loix is almost certainly the best UAEian at motorsport unless they have some others which I don't know about.
