This is a list of games that everyone should play, most of them are older, and/or did not catch the praise and popularity they deserved. If you haven't played these titles, go out and grab them before they can't be found at all!
SNES-
Earthbound: Earthbound, or Mother 2, is a quirky sprite RPG which has developed into somewhat of a cult classic. The graphics are notably mediocre, but the heart is pure gold. Very hippie.
Rock N' Roll racing: This arcade style game is somewhat of a Super Mario Kart with missiles, aliens, car upgrades, and terrible quality rock music.
Zombies ate my neighbors: Pure, fun. Go around dodging chainsaw murderers and beat the zombies off of tourists and cheerleaders with a squirt gun! Watch out for the Giant baby!
Uncharted Waters 2: This game surprised the hell out of me with an understandable interface, fair translation, and tons of depth, very rare for a SNES strategy game. Buy a ship and make trading routes, beat off pirates, or become one yourself ans you slowly build a fleet. Set in the early days of exploration.
Playstation-
Lunar, Silver Star Story complete: This is the purest example of classic rpg action, complete with so many packaged goodies that it isn't funny. A bound instruction manual, cloth map, soundtrack, and more. The game's somewhat aging graphics are helped along by over an hour of full motion animated cutscenes. Game has quality voice acting.
Star Ocean, the second story: The best game on the playstation. This massive game has a fantastic battle system. The plot branches so many times, in such major ways, that repeated playthroughs are a must if you want the full story. I've played through it 4 times and am still discovering new quests, characters, and plotlines.
The legacy of Kain, Soul Reaver: Great mood, and lots of cool puzzles.
Final Fantasy Tactics: I cannot praise this game enough. Go buy it.
Final Fantasy 8: The best final fantasy, in my honest opinion. A very cinematic and complete experience.
Breath of Fire 3: The playstation has lots of great classic RPGs, lots and lots and lots. Don't pass this one up, though, because it is something special.
Nintendo 64-
Pilotwings: I used to love this game, and if you can find it for under 10$, probably at game crazy or gamestop, then snatch it up. The flying physics are great. Very calming game.
Conker's bad fur day: Funny adult humor, and not that bad of a game either.
Ogre Battle 64: If you're one of those diehard nintendo fans, and refuse to indulge in other systems, you'll likely be lacking in RPGs and strategy games. This is not one to be missed. In fact, it might be worth buying an N64 by it's lonely.
Mischief Makers!: If you've been following along, you'll notice that I have a thing for quirky games. This is a perfect example. This game is awesome, and very unique. Side scrolling action at it's best.
Poke'mon puzzle league: I'm afraid to play this game, for fear that I might not be able to stop...
Jet Force Gemini: Best 3d bug themed shooter ever. Pure action and great control.
PS2-
Romace of the three kingdoms 8: Excellent strategy game, very refined, for those that don't mind SNES quality graphics and sound.
Disgaea: This is the best example of it's genre next to Final Fantasy Tactics. Extremely likable and generous with genuine laughs.
Hitman 2: This is the best 3d stealth game ever. Seriously. This rocks.
Harvest moon, Save the homeland: Ok, yes, it is a farming simulator. It's also engaging, likable, and fun.
PC-
Icewind dale/Icewind dale 2/ Baldur's gate/ Baldur's gate 2: Black Isle has done excellent work with Dungeons & Dragons, and these are the pinnacle of that. These are golden.
Sid Meier's Civilization 3: This is the closest you can come to the experience of taking over the world, by force or persuasion. Daunting in theory, brilliant in execution.
The elder scrolls 3, Morrowind: This game is massive beyond description. Completely non-linear, with a simply mind boggling amount of freedom, and endless things to do. This game has the largest and most active modding community I have ever seen or heard tell of. This is the best PC game ever in my opinion, though it's certainly not for everyone, and even at two years old the specs are daunting enouh to break lower end computers.
