A couple for Gen that Terra missed too...

Herzog Zwei: 1st-year Genesis title.  Very fun RTS game with some interesting modifications, including the player's ability to control a major unit that transforms like a Veritech.

Powerball:  Just your typical early-90s violent ball-throwing bloodsport, but addictive...

and I actually loved the combat system, the enhancement system and the characters of FFVIII...Rinoa, especially, deserves more respect than she gets.  By the way, where do the PS disks of FFChronicles, FFArchives, and FFOrigins come in in importance, to your way of thinking?  (Personally, I think everyone should own them, and curse pre-Enix Square for OOPing them so fast...and for not ensuring they were PS2 compatible!!)

FF Chronicles, Anthology and Origins are PS2 compatible. I own Chronicles and Anthology and both work fine on my PS2.

And back onto the subject, people need to play Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time, easily the best game this year.

I've played PoP, and my vote still goes to Legacy of Kain: Defiance.

I liked Selphy though, she was cool.

Selphie was a good example as to how Squall was a terrible leader. Remember when she told him that she was going to the Galbadian base? Remember when she told him that she was going? Remember how she told him, she didn't ask, she told him what she was doing and that there was nothing he could do to stop her.

He had no power over his own team.

Well yes, but he never asked to be leader. It was a role that was forced upon him. Asides from which, can you think of anyone else there whom would have made a better leader?

Kidding. I don't know. None of them were...well...any good. Guess that's part of the reason why VIII was horrible. It isn't a saving grace for the game that none of the other characters had good qualities either.

I think that FF VIII was good, the scenario and the system were good, the problem being that the chars were not as good as they were wanted to be.

The problem is that the chars were not good enough to pass as human beings.

Personally, I think VII and IX had more beliveable characters. As for X... I liked Auron most out of the party, and Jecht most out of the game.  Titus and Yuna were WAY too whiny.

Drake, I think you might be exaggerating a tad... neh?

I think it at least had better character development than the seventh.

Besides from which, I never said that the characters had no positive distinguishing characteristics, I merely pointed out that none of them were fit to lead, including Squall.-A point that was present within the game.

 

Meh, I had no problem with Tidus, though I did find his internal monologue a tad annoying. Yuna... Yuna was too bland.

The part that sticks out in my mind the most is when Tidus finally gets around to facing Jecht.  Tidus starts crying and says "I hate you" in a little school-girl voice.  It's no wonder Jecht has contempt for the boy.

1) I thought Auron and Rikku were the best of X.

2) What do you mean, character development? They weren't developed at all! They all maintained the stupid stereotypes they were created in thoughout the entire game.
