    BS's football ramblings.

That time of year coming on fast again. So I'm going to eventually give my take on the upcoming season before it starts. You know, so I can't weasel out of it when I claim the Pats win the SB again this year and something dumb like Brady gets injured happens. (Stop drooling Ty, yes, you're team should kick ass this year)

Anyway, I will be posting my thoughts shortly, but would like to hear anyone elses take on things. Don't worry, if you are wrong, I will tell you repeatedly at the end of the season while referencing this thread.

    RE: BS's football ramblings.

Wow..is it that time already?   My brain hasnt even adjusted from the baseball season yet.  I need to get into that full transition for the football season.

Im really proud of the New England Pats.  It feels so good to finally have a winning team here in this area.  I mean we've struggled through 15 years with the Celtics, 25 years with the Bruins and 85 years with the Red Sox.  Its been rough.  But now we can finally call one of our teams champions

That said, I need to get back into the feel of things.  Cincinnati may well actually make the playoffs this year, and Jacksonville is my pick for the season surprise.  (Last year I was mostly correct in the Seahawks pick).  But the tough thing is that Jacksonville is gonna be in a TOUGH division, as I think Houston may pick up the slack too.  Someones gotta lose somewhere.

If Vick can actually go unhurt this year, he may well take the Falcons to a good finishing spot, but Im just unsure of the completeness of this team.

And unfortunetly I think the Cowboys may be pretty good too, but that my just be the pessimist inside me.

I dont remember all the moves Oakland made, but I remember them making some pretty big ones, along with Washington.  So they might be teams to watch too.

My PRELIMINARY pick for the superbowl is Indianapolis vs Atlanta.  And I think most of the very good teams will be in the AFC.  Indy, the Pats, Miami, Titans, and Broncos I think will be very good.  Geez....I just dont know though.  Im very rusty at this point.  Ill get my brain polished shortly

I know the feeling. I'm just now getting over the Pistons beating the sorry ass Lakers and the glee I feel watching that team fall apart

I ain't sold on the falcons. Vick is big, but he didn't have an effect on their defensive colapse last year.

I will say this ...Eagles are gonna be a big letdown to Philly fans this year. I'll go more in depth later. Right now, I'm needing to get my bearings

    RE: BS's football ramblings.

I agree about Philly.  Theyve had their shot and now their team is sort of a bit...meh, you know?  They have been real lucky to get to where theyve gotten in recent years, especially last year as their team was sort of scrap.  But I really dont see many teams in the NFC stepping up, sort of like last year.

The Panthers will still be pretty good, I think.  Playoff bound, most likely, but I dont see them in the Superbowl again...not this year anyway.

Its more a situation on I cant find an NFC team to pick so lets just go with the Vick attack   If not the Falcons I would have picked the Cowboys, but I dont want to depress myself

Yeah, Eagles are banking to muck on Owens and Ke****. They forget they have no secondary anymore worth speaking of, and their linebackers...well, they are unknown.

Skins may be better this year. God knows they got the coach for it. But the NFC does look like the AFC's kid brother these days

HA!  You just learned the crappiness of the filter on this forum   A-R-S-E is actually filtered when ass is not

Yeah, McNabb is great, but 3 headline players does not a team make (unless its basketball )

I wonder how Gibbs will be on his year back.  His race teams are somewhat struggling without him (though they won this week), so Im sure theyd like to see him back in racing, but Im glad to see him go to back to football.  Im too young for his big time, but I know he did magic in Washington.  If anything, its given new life to Washington fans.  There was a QB change in Washington, wasnt there?  Or what am I thinking of?

Hmmm, lets see. Who is going to be in the Superbowl. Well I am going to go for the Vikings on the NFC side and how about the Chiefs on the AFC.

There now that I have doomed those two teams to not even making the playoffs I can focus on some more promising teams.

    RE: BS's football ramblings.

Yes, that would probably be one of the ugliest superbowls in history.

Unless of course youre talking about when it really did happen and the Chiefs won it.  What superbowl was that?  It was one of the first 10.

    RE: BS's football ramblings.

Gibbs brings the one thing no other ccoach could bring to the Redskins. Instant no meddling guarranttee with Snyder. Dan Snyder grew up a skins fans during the Gibbs era. He idolizes the man. Gibbs was always Snyders dream coach, and snyder regularly tried to lure him back to coaching from the time he bought the team. He'll let Gibbs do what Gibbs has to do.

As to QB, yep. Skins went out and got Brunell. Gibbs prefers to have veteren QB's. I still look for Ramsey to work his way back into the lineup by years end...if nothing else due to injury. Doesn't matter, as any QB with Portis in the backfield would have to be Ryan Leaf to fail

    RE: BS's football ramblings.

Ahhh yes, I knew Washington did some wholesale changes this off season.  Things look up with Portis for sure, and Brunell is pretty good if not a French vase on a table of toothpicks.

But I wouldnt go out on too many limbs here especially the confidence one.  If theres one thing I know about the NFL, it is that things have a way of surprising people

    RE: BS's football ramblings.

How many of the past few years have Washington made these so called big improvements only to do just marginal during ther regular season.  I will have to wait until they show me before I believe. I still think Philly will be the team to beat in that division.

    RE: BS's football ramblings.

Hrm...I think that division will be:

    1. Dallas
    2. Philladelphia
    3. Washington
    4. New York Giants  (though I really dislike Eli...what he did in the draft just got to me and hes just some snobby little QB)

yeah Eli is a bit snobbish. I kind of hope he flaems out bigger than Ryan Leaf. Then everybody can stop talking about him and I can forget he is a alumni of WSU.

When I think of WSU QBs I think of Drew Bledsoe and Jason Gesser, a couple very good QBs indeed

    RE: BS's football ramblings.

I have heard the voice of the Football Gods, and they say that NE, Cin, Tenn, Den, Wash, GB, Car, and Sea will be tops in thier divisions.

The Superbowl will be fought between Tenn and Car, with Tenn winning 54 to 21.

I have it on the best authority.

They also tell me that I will do worse than last year in both my office pool and BS's fantasy league, so go figure.
