"The Future Belongs to Freedom, not Fear."
I just finished watching the presidential debates. Damn. Kerry just wiped the floor with Bush. I cannot believe how that man (Bush) can speak in circles so much and not get his tongue tied. Anyway, thought I'd give you my liberal opinion, and let you know that my vote will go to Kerry. I'm just curious what you guys, Americans or not, think about this whole election.
Each day that comes is one day closer to Pedro's demise.
And no oompa-loompas.

I don't vote. As MTV calls me, a loser. I honestly don't think my single vote will make or break any poll. And no matter who's in that office, they'll **** it up hard. Oh the angst.
...My wings were just so tasty. I love mankind, it's people I can't stand.

Power corrupts. Absolute power corrupts absolutely. It doesn't really matter who you vote for, America will still be America.

Hey, being called a loser by MTV is actually a compliment... MTV just deserves to suffer a terrorist attack. Silly American politicians... always overvalueing "freedom" and "democracy" and other fairy tale values... personally if I were American, I would not vote. But I'm Brazilian, and I'll be able to vote on the next election (minimal voting age in Brazil is 16, also minimal age to get arrested). Unnecessary to say, I'll vote blank.

Thats actually a good thing to do (spoiling your vote as opposed to not voting) - it lets those who know know that more and more people are starting to see that democracy is a pile of horse****. For the next elections over here, I think I'll piss all over my ballot paper.

No, the people who run things know that the general population is stupid, they have crap uninformed opinions and are victims of the moronic concept of 'Folk Devils'.
For example, murder. It is a terrible thing, but so many more people are killed by breaches of health and safety regulations in the work place. Why do we only hear of murders?, because people are stupid and the media and governments know this.
If less 'young people' continue to vote then governments will be more and more chosen by the 'older people', meaning the needs and wants of the young will be ignored more and more. Don't vote, don't get a voice.
... Just my random political rant for the day, might add more later if anyone cares to challenge my points.

By 'those who know' I didn't mean 'those who run things'.
And if you just tried to promote voting, I'm gonna have to kick you in the head.

Wait... you're suprised that I promoted voting?, despite nagging you in person to vote in the last council elections... even though I kinda forgot to... I think Churchill said something along the lines of: "Democracy is the worst form of Government, apart from the others"

I didn't say it wasn't a stupid idea... it's just the only viable one at the current time.
There is no ideal form of government, and people need government. Or bad things happen.

Or so you've been told. Personally, I've never experienced govermentless life. And if I don't take in their crap about everything else then I sure as hell aren't gonna take their crap about governments being needed. The truth as I see it is: Society perpetuates a need for society, people don't.

It's not really about society, it's human nature.
Humans need to be 'regulated' and controlled by something overwhelmingly powerful (The reason Hobbes called his book 'Leviathon').
With no government people degenerate, further than they do now.
Without a 'Leviathon' life would be hard, lonely, brutish and very very short. There would be no development of culture and an era of violence would be perpetuated, through selfishness, paranoia and need.

As I was reading that post, I had a feeling you'd come on to culture:
Consider for a moment that maybe culture is a bad thing. Its what separates us from the animals, right? Well guess what - the reason humans are so self-destructive is because we're not animals. We've come to realise certain horrifying truths about our lives that an animal could not (and would not have to), as a result. In this case, I honestly believe ignorance is bliss - therefore if we strived to become more animalistic, we'd lead happier lives.

Perhaps, but humans are too intelligent to live like animals. This isn't a compliment, mind.
The whole reason we need to be controlled is that even the basic human with none of his luxuries still cannot exist as an animal. The only way to achieve this would be to raise children to be nothing more than animals, and nobody would agree to that.
Nobody, despite the 'benefits' would agree to give up everything.

Some people are pretty close though, and the more the population gets pushed around and picked on (and the more they realise it), the more likely it is that enough people will want serious change.
