    RE: Meaning of life

And I find that deeply gratifying, far more than any prospect of a spelled-out meaning of life. Hell, I'd rather have no meaning to my life, and be given the right to choose what I wish than to have a super-important purpose or lot in life.

    RE: Meaning of life

F*** all of that stuff.  Life needs no meaning. Just take it for what it is, and waste your time with drugs, sex, and comic books untill you finally keel off and die.

    RE: Meaning of life

The meaning of life is simple. Choice.

There is no grand purpose, no plan that you contribute to in any vital way. With six billion people on this hunk of rock, God really doesn't need any one person for His plans to come to fruition. His designs give meaning to the universe, give the chance for life to have meaning.

Look not to the heavens for the meaning of life, nor to philosiphers and mentors. Look inside yourself, look at your choices. That is the meaning of life, inherint in decisions.

    RE: Meaning of life

The meaning of life as seen by moi:

I really have no idea. I was led to believe when I was young, my mom and dad used to drag me off to church, like probably many of you. Because of this young age a lot of things where put into me. Such as that life is a test from God, to see if you are fit to go to heaven and hell. That is our purpose to multiply (as believers..or just reproduce...the Bible is never clear about that.). That one should be kind to each other. (again the test part.)

Later on in a young age (as soon as I got a library card.) I became interested in other religions, much Buddhism, Hindoeism etc etc. I've read a lot of books about them, I talked to believers of other religions. (On a funny note, If you can ask a firm Muslim if they also have Satan in hell. You get such funny answers.) Right now Im not sure about it. Christians, Muslims and Jews say that there is one God! To rule them all! Buddhism say that you get reincarnated, that you should also behave good because then you will go on another plateau in life. For instance you start out as an insect. Then you go to a small mammal or fish, next you get dog or bear or bird. then you become human, then you can become buddha or bodhisvatta and enter nirvana. If you do bad then you fall down the ladder again and reincarnate into something worse. For instance this may happen to murders and thieves.

Hindoeism is a lot like Buddhism, with the reincarnation and having to do good. Im now researching Japanese Shintoism, but that is a strange religion indeedie .

So the meaning of life? Well according to most religions: Dont kill, Dont steal, Dont lie, Be kind to others and you will be rewarded when you die. To Science: We have not calculate it yet .

But with the religions there is a catch, you must be true to the one faith to rule them all! For instance Christianity want you to believe in christ and god. Muslims want you to believe in Allah en Buddhism says you have to be true to the teachings of buddha. If you dont you might as well not try. Parradoxal isnt it? But as they say, all paths up the mountain lead to the same summit. We all see the same moon when we get there...

*fujin that would be to you, sir*
    ^_^ Rock on

    RE: Meaning of life

But if you never bother to question you're purpose, then how do you know that you ARE doing the best with the life you've been given?

Christianity says that god is perfect and that god created us, it doesn't say that we are perfect, but I'd like to think that God wouldn't have messed us up too badly. He gave us arms to work, legs to move, skin, eyes, ears, nose, and tongue to percieve, and brain to calculate, to conspire, and to puzzle. He wouldn't give us curiosity unless we were meant to use it, and he wouldn't have given us so much curiosity unless it was supposed to be useful.

    RE: Meaning of life

You're assuming Christianity is right. Arms, legs, eyes, etc. would be an obvious step forwards for the evolution of humans from primordeal goo. Part of being human is our vast (compared with other animals on this planet) capacity for learning, that is why we are curious.

but i'm saying that i'll stick to judging how i'm doing with the life i have, not spending so much time of why i have it in the first place...

    RE: Meaning of life

I wasn't validating anything, or, I wasn't trying to anyway. I was (would that be am? Since if someone looks up this thread and reads my post the point is still mine and standing) using that as an example to refute Kingofnothing.

Blasphemy, King! All knowledge is good knowledge! It leads to technology, at least the technology that General Motors allows us to have, and technology leads to such wonders as pollution! Holes in the ozone layer! Modern weapons of war! nuclear fallout!

Yes, technology, and knowledge! Are our fast friends who'll help us through dark times.

    RE: Meaning of life

knowledge is a grand thing, but i personally don'fe feel like using braincells to figure out why i have functioning braincells in the first place is a waste of braincells!

i'd rather use them coming up with a comic storyline, or what my girlfriend's favorite movie is.

those things could help me make the best of the life i have, where as knowing why i have life.... well i i think i have life to make the best of it not to spend time wondering why i have life.

    RE: Meaning of life

I read this whole thread from first to the end, I guess I would agree with the one who say, it is up to us to decide what is the meaning of our life. What would you do with your life?

It was our decision to give some meaning to our life.

To life just to have some fun is okay, but soon you'll find out that life is f*****g s**t, that it will give you lots of bad thing. And suddenly no more fun and your life lost it's meaning.

    RE: Meaning of life

Exactly, its easy for people who enjoy life to tell you to just relax and enjoy your life too, but not everyone can.
