    RE: Auto Racing (revived)

Never drink and drive. Scott Wimmer is an idiot but unless laws are different in America losing your driving lience doesn't matter to your motor racing lience (thought I personally think it should); Tom Chilton had already claimed his first BTCC podium before he had passed his driving test (lucky git at that age ). Wimmer should stay in NASCAR unless his team take exception to his bad behaviour and sack him, like what happened to Tomas Scheckter who was caught curb crawling and was promptly sacked from his testing role by Jaguar.

    RE: Auto Racing (revived)

Yeah, I have no sympathy for Scott right now. Hes in a high profile ride, with a big sponsor, and a ton of talent. He was easily one of the favorites to win rookie of the year. He may still be. But, you just dont do what he did.

Well NASCAR has a very strict substance abuse policy. Brian Rose and Shane Hmiel were both ejected from their rides last season after doing drugs. Hmiel is expected to return this year (boo! He doesnt deserve it!) and Rose is still without a ride.

Tomas Sheckter? You mean that guy who runs in the IRL? The same one?

NASCAR's have ejector seats? Cool! Is that the other use of the escape hatch?

Yeah, it's Tomas Scheckter, I had forgotten he had gone to the IRL after being sacked by Jaguar.

    Ejected=suspended, whatever

Yeah, his teammate, Scott Dixon won the championship last year too...

Sorry, I was doing one of those exceedingly poor puns I do quite often.

I can never consider winning the IRL as much of an achievement as winning a CART championship, though Scott Dixon I'm sure is a good driver.

    RE: Auto Racing (revived)

Scott Dixon did well in CART aswell. He won in his rookie season, and showed great promise for the championship in CART, however his team packed up and left for the IRL, so he followed

    RE: Auto Racing (revived)

Yeah, I remember he was in the last season I watched fully of CART before I got rather dis-enchanted with it then the following season no one picked up the TV rights to it so I can't watch anymore even if I wanted to. The problem is that if any American wants to get into F1 these days (most I know rather would aim for NASCAR) they now pretty much have race in Europe to get any recognition at all, F1 team bosses won't look to IRL. It's now been over a decade since the last American raced in F1 (and then Andretti was not at all good) which I think is a bit sad.

    RE: Auto Racing (revived)

    Hey, Andretti wasnt terrible!

A bit sad? The US is one of the biggest nations in the world, and the opportunities to get into motor racing of all kinds--its there, and it lives. The problem is the interest is not there. Im happy to see the audience at the American Grand Prix is decent, because I hate being associated with fans that can only understand "circle driving"

Did you know that in order to see ANY F-1 race, you got to have at least digital cable? Meaning the availability of even watching a race is restricted. Which means the interest in the sport is very defined.

3/4 of the Cup races are on channels that dont even require normal cable, let alone digital cable.

What this translates to is that theres only an interest in NASCAR style races

    NASCAR runs on primarily ovals

IRL runs on pure ovals, only. CART WAS on non-cable channels, and IRL wasnt. Now people see CART and think "What the hell? Theyre doing roadcourses? Thats boring!" And then they see the IRL and say "Hey! Ovals! Cool!"

So, that translates to people not liking CART and not even knowing the F-1.

The general concensus of the American audience about F-1 is that there is no passing, and its boring.

Now, I dont even remember what point I was trying to make (doh)

    RE: Auto Racing (revived)

I'm sorry Tybs but Michael Andretti was terrible in F1, it's a fact . 6 points in 13 races while Senna had won races. Okay the car wasn't a world beater but Andretti was not good, I believe he crashed out in 2 of his first 3 races. Also his attitude wasn't very fitting, he did try hard and give it his all on the track but he didn't even bother moving from America, he flew every other weekend to Europe to race, this didn't exactly endear him to his mechanics who got to know their tester, Mika Hakkinen, a lot better.

At least the general concensus among American audience is right; F1 is boring and lacks passing

Yes, I've tried to make a point before but during my talking I completely forget what...wait, what am I talking about?

Oh yeah...well I was talking about......Mario...yes thats it. Mario

Well I didnt say they were wrong, but if thats all they can appreciate about the series, than it is a shame

You were talking about how great the hula girls are

Christian Fittipaldi got to sit in in one of my favorite shows, "Wind Tunnel: With Dave Despain". It is a fan call-in show. He got to talk about his past, future, regrets and best memories. I thought he did a great job explaining his points and why hes gone through all the changes he has chosen to take.

    RE: Auto Racing (revived)

Well, Mario is a completely different matter, he won an F1 World Championship in the 70s with Lotus.

    Motorsport call-in show?...damn, lucky git .

Christian has gone through changes? What like he has had surgery to cyberneticly enhance his brain? Maybe that's why he won the Daytona 24 Hours?

Ah, hula girls, right. Yes, the great thing about Hula girls is that they dance ever so well in their grass skirts and in such a hot, sweaty climate with their perfectly tanned bodies and...excuse me...

    RE: Auto Racing (revived)

Yeah, Mario is one of the legends of motorsports here. Thats why everyone freaked out when he flipped a car at Indy last year

Yeah, and all thanks to Motorsports veteran analyst and lifetime fan of all sorts of autoracing, Dave Despain. The guy never holds anything back and always keeps his mind open, while having a sense of humor. Just a great tv personality Ive thought about calling in myself or giving an email to the show, but I really dont have a nagging question or opinion at this time...

Tonight theyve got American Dakar rally biker Larry Roeseler.

    Ha....ha.....ha

Yes, those Hawaiian girls certainly look great

    RE: Auto Racing (revived)

I read about Mario's flip at Indy, he maybe very good still but I don't think he should have done the test.

You don't have a nagging opinion about anything in motorsport? Could have fooled me *coughharvickcough*

And I'm sure Roeseler will get to describe what it's like to dig a bike out of sand dune.

Another laugh! My comedy is improving!

    RE: Auto Racing (revived)

Yeah, Mario is quietly retired, he should stay retired, plus those IRL cars are terribly dangerous.

Ah, yeah, well I could bitch and complain about Harvick, but Ill wait until he has another run in with officials

Yeah, he certainly had to do that. He also had some ankle injury with 2 stages left, but still soldiered on to finish 12th. Im sure he'll talk about that too.

    Boo!

    RE: Auto Racing (revived)

Those IRL cars are very dangerous, I think they've reduced the power or something to the engines but I think they should massively reduce downforce that way they won't nearly be able to use all the car's power.

You'll probably won't have to wait too long.

Roeseler done something we can only dream (or have nightmares) of.

    "Boo!"--Tybaltus

Are you trying to scare me?
