    Uryuomoco Translation Thread

    Current known rules for Translating to Uryuomoco:

    A=U..........N=M
    B=V..........O=E
    C=S..........P=K
    D=Z..........Qu=W**
    E=O..........R=L
    F=H..........S=C
    G=T..........T=G
    H=F..........U=A
    I=Y(u)*.....V=B
    J=X...........W=Qu**
    K=P...........X=J
    L=R...........Y(u)=I
    M=N..........Z=D

    *Since Y sometimes isn't pronounceable by itself, English I translates to Uryuomoco Yu.

    **Qu is treated as a single letter.

    If a Uryuomoco word would end in -e, an h is added to the end of the word.

    English Th translates to Uryuomoco Ch.
    English Ch translates to Uryuomoco Se.
    English Wh translates to Uryuomoco Quo.
    English -ing translates to Uryuomoco -ot.
    English Gr translates to Uryuomoco Tul.
    English Ss translates to Uryuomoco Ais.

    Cut and pasted from the Uryuomoco thread from the old WC.n forum, except for the two new exceptions.

    RE: Uryuomoco Translation Thread

    Why did you have to bring that back? It has half of the cluster rules. Everyone uses it because they're very lazy, and then their speech becomes unintelligible for anyone who actually knows uryuomoco.
    Come, see Neko Girl Jessica's Place, a haven for RPers everywhere!

    RE: Uryuomoco Translation Thread

    Well I guess it's nice to have it back; I wasn't registered at the time but I remember the thread. I actually had a copy of the rules but then the computer I had them on got trashed right after the thread was lost. I'm still waiting for the "sh" rule to be found.

    Terra: It's not the worst translator, though it needs to be updated; for example it worked well enough with todays comic.
    It's not enough to succeed, others must fail.
    What if there were no hypothetical questions?

    Its nice for those of us who just dont have time to sit down and translate by hand.

    OK, so Im lazy, shoot me.

    RE: Uryuomoco Translation Thread

    You really shouldn't cross comics like that. On the silent "g", like the "sh" I mentioned not all rules are known.

    RE: Uryuomoco Translation Thread

    One more reason we need to bring back the posts from the old forum... I'd like to get in touch with the guy who wrote it.  Not that I think that everyone should use it... I just think it should be available to those who don't have the time to dedicate to memorizing all the rules...

    RE: Uryuomoco Translation Thread

    Some of us don't have the time, energy or the aptitude to learn ciphers. You may have noticed my absence in the old thread. I don't post in Uryomoco, but it's good to know what people who are posting in it are going on about, so the applet is very useful.

    RE: Uryuomoco Translation Thread

    Hi, clueless newbie posting for the first time here, but what about words that in English end in "of" (like "of", "goof", "aloof" or "proof" and it's compounds like "waterproof" and "fireproof".

    If you translate them to Uryuomoco they become indistinguishable from words that ended with just "o" in English.

    grep -c of$ /usr/share/dict/words

    gave me 415 words that end in "of"

    Most are compounds of "proof".

    grep of$ /usr/share/dict/words |grep -vc proof$

    gave me 40 words that end in "of" but not in "proof"

    12 of those had a counterpart word in the list that is the same but without the trailing "f"

    Admitedly that's not that many, and some of those are rather bizzare or obscure. But it is a problem none the less.
    Here are some of the more problematic ones.
    prof-pro
    poof-poo
    woof-woo
    goof-goo (obviously a very glaring problem)
    of-O (Yes "O" is in fact a word in it's own right, though a bit archaic it is considered distinct from "oh"; "O" is used to address an entity:"O Canada", "oh" is used as a general exclamation: "Oh my!")

    Translate Canada's national anthem back and forth and you could end up with "Of Canada"

    Refer to a teacher(Particularly a female one) as "Prof" and they may get very angry at you.
