I don't think anyone wants Dan to publish the thing in place of, or in tandem with, the current lineup. It could be done (with Dan's permission) by a bunny, kinda like fanart. Same concept, different medium.
And i don't think anyone said the movies were as good as the books. I said that it can sometimes add something to the experience. For example: Fellowship dragged on a bit before they got to Moria for the purpose of conveying to the reader the feeling of time passing. In the movies, the focus was on telling the story in a constrained amount of time. Therefore, you skipped over all but the points essential to telling the story as completely as possible, while at the same time emphasising the "good parts". There is a difference between telling a story in a book, and telling that same story in a movie. Both are different, and if done well, both are good albeit in different ways.
And thats as far as I'm going to go off topic.
