    Post Here If You Suspect A Comic Is Cheating

    Hey guys, I thought a thread like this might be nice. Instead of having to make a thread every time we think a comic is cheating, we could just post here. If a TWC admin checks this, then it can help catch noticeable cases of cheating that might have gone unnoticed.

    And remember, sometimes it's a wily fan, not the comic creator that is putting through a ton of cheating votes. So don't post offensively towards the comic itself, this is just to help everybody!

    Kay, let's try this out. I have been noticing Mediocre Theater's votes (#11 right now, member ID 1531) were at about 163 votes all day, and suddenly they are all the way up to 196. And yes, they are right next to me on the list, which is the whole reason I've been noticing their vote count. Can someone make a quick check?

    edit: Oh yeah, and if the admins don't like the idea of this thread you can just lock it.

    I'm going to have to agree with Johnny smash on this one. No offence to M T, but it's only been around since late september. There's no forums, the site is obviously trying to jump onto the fame of 8-bit, and unless the author has some friends in big places (Other, bigger webcomic communities) he wouldn't be able to pull in the votes he's getting without cheating.

    Sure, it is a cleanly done sprite comic with what appears to be alot of work put into it, but it just hasnt been around long enough to develop the kind of fan-base it needs.

    I personally offer incentives out the wahzoo, but only about 1/3 of my daily uniques ever vote. Most comics you'll see it's about the same.

    Normally, only about 1/5th of the traffic a site receives will vote. 1/10th (or less) will join the forums. Half of THAT will be active in the forums, and only 1/50th will participate in any chat room you may have set up/

    I'll look into that. And this thread's fine. It's easier this way if you guys think someone's cheating.

    50% or more of his votes come from ip addresses starting with 172 (most of those with 172.165) and his votes go something like this

    13:39:50, 13:40:48,13:41:43,13:42:35,13:44:34,13:47:04,13:47:52,13:48:39,13:49:20,13:50:10,13:51:34,13:52:42  and they just keep going like that, averaging around 1 minute apart.  I haven't assessed how many votes I'll be penalizing him, but normally based on this data it would be pretty extreme based on a count of the total number of what I consider probably invalid votes.

     

    Also, I'm going to be uploading our newest build of the revised topwebcomics.com pretty soon, so I'll be giving out the URL here so that the comic owners can play with it and give me feedback before it goes live (which I believe will be the 1st of next month).

     Can anyone help me identify problems or lack there of with this data?  This information is available on the test version of TWC, but I haven't finished retrofitting the live SQL Server to work with the newest build of TWC.

    That is my opinion.  Comparing their IPs to other sites in the top 10, no one has so many votes coming in such a short time from the same A block of IPs.  Whats weird, is usually when there is cheating, the votes come from the same C or B block (because most universities buy IPs by the C block, which tends to be how most people cheat).
