    Tess fanart

About a week ago, in an attempt to further my ability to draw characters, I did this little fanart of Tess from the AF04 alternate dimension with the Tess from my own comic. It's fairly cute, I think, but didn't come out quite as well as I would like it too.

    Tess & Tess

    C&C welcome and appreciated.

    laterz all,

I hope you don't mind, but I'm using your pic as a fun photoshop shading excercise. (Testing out different styles) It's gonna be a long time till I'm done, but so far it's been rather interesting.

I don't mind at all. I can't wait to see how it turns out.

My tablet died recently and it's demise has left my art shadeless and flat

    RE: Tess fanart

Alrighty, I think I'm finished. For those of you not paying attention, it's 2 A.M. Ow, my wrist.

Anyway, I had an interesting time doing this, because when I started on the hair, I decided to use some other drawings on the net as a reference.  These drawings had a completely different style of shading. x_X So you'll be seeing two different styles of shading on it. Still, I'm rather happy how it turned out, I think it's quite nice. This was an interesting contrast to coloring dan's sketches, since they're always rather detailed when they're posted, so I have quite a but to work from (and to clean up). In this case, the detail was less common, so I had to do some extrapolating (read: guessing) and add stuff in myself. Why am I typing all this up? I have no idea Anyway, I'm done stalling. Here's the link.

Anyone is free to shade this fanart; I'll be happy to see the results.

P.S. Red headed Tess is a character from my own comic, see my signature for link.

well then i may start reading that... heh... i haven't done any fanwork in a while.

any way here it is, its not much seeing as how i prefer subtle shading.

    RE: Tess fanart

I actually like it. I think its messy style keeps it closer to the original in terms of the way it was drawn; I did extensive cleanup on my version, redrawing most of the lines and removing extra 'sketchy' lines that made is look the way it is. I rather like the hair; I think mine was a bit too flat. I think the way you shadowed the shirts was better than mine as well, but since I'm shading by intuition (read: Guessing) in the first place, it's to be expected. I'm probably too meticulous for my own good. (My PSD file was 28 layers!) What program did you use? Oh, and how long did it take you? I'm rather curious.

Oh by the way. I don't use a tablet, I find them kind of uncomfortable... Mouse for me.

    RE: Tess fanart

heh i almost never use more than one layer. i used a program called gimp and it took me a little under a half hour. Yes, i very much aware my style is messy.
