    Your own game

What would your game be like?

I'll just use meh comic as the game for now

    Genre: Action-RPG

Gameplay: Rather easy to learn, but a bit difficult to master. It wouldn't take all of the buttons, but it would make use of the analog and d-pad as seperate beings and not just some camera control. It will be mission based and for the rpg statistics they're preprogrammed as you lvl up. And for this, the AI won't be retarted as many games fail to understand what a wall is. Also teammate AI will actually do something useful. You do not have complete control as to how they will take on situations, but they will act the best to their individual knoweledge (that makes it much more realistic).

Graphically: It would rather focus on being unique in it's own style, not the king of pretty as Square see's it, but rather making it feel original.

Sound: Music (believe it or not) is probably more important than the graphics. Due to the fact that my genre is rpgish, music must flow with the characters. Mine though would probably be bouncy and irract for the times of action, but switch to blues for serious dramatic points. As for sfx, they won't just be a bunch of stupid grunts and groins, taunts will switch and "Whoosahs" will be varied, more taunts will unlock as the story goes onward.

Story: The story will always stay in your head. The feeling that I'm trying to invoke will always stick during the action, if a character get's killed off, you're gonna be pissed as hell and you're gonna kick his or her ass.

Hopefully, this would be the making of a 5:5 or 4:5 game. If I did that, I know it wouldn't be less than 4:5.

    RE: Your own game

    Genre - Action RPG

basis - You are a vampire hunter in 1832. The vampires in question have spread across the globe nearly out of control. You start off in Virginia and can travel anywhere in the known world (by foot, horse, carriage, or ship) to hunt down the fiends. To help you you have a crest which glows red when you near vampires. (faintly = 500 miles, moderately = 100 miles, strongly = 10 miles, strongest = 1 mile)

You also use newspapers, tips and such to pinpoint a specific location on the map, and once you get close enough, interrogation. Once you locate a vampire coven there are several things you can use to aid in your assault. Garlic, holy water and holy ornaments, possibly sunlight enchanted items (enchanted equipment exists, but it's extremely rare).

Of course, all of this takes some time, and if you stick around too long in preparation, the vampires in question may seek you out themselves. Sometime around 1840 (the game would of course have to include time progression) the vampires of the world would gather at the four largest cities in the world (New York, London, Paris, Moscow?) and siege them wholesale.

This is the culmination of the game, and the strength of the vampires' sieges are directly related to how well you did clearing them off the planet. Since the sieges are going on simultaneously, it's unlikely that you could be at more than one.

After the event, the remaining congregations of vampires, (after feasting wholesale on the people of the cities and bolstering their ranks) would travel the maps, going from city to city and leaving them empty. This is where the game switches gears. As a respected Vampire Hunter, you can recruit people to your army, and lead from a position of command.

From there it's mainly a race, to see if you can stop the vampiric hordes before they wipe out humanity. (leaving themselves a large group of humans to breed and eat so that they don't starve, of course.

Before this stage of the game, you could still recruit people, (based of reputation) though it'd be unlikely that you'd ever get more than a couple score people until the initial sieges, at which point your reputation would receive a massive boost to support the much larger troop count neccessary.

Such a game would require a massive amount of memory and research (mapping out the entire world!) and wouldn't really be realistic until a couple years down the road. Your character would probably best be represented through a 3rd edition D&D type thing (6 stats, 3-20, +skills & feats).

A modified version of it could also work in an MMORPG (players are vampire hunters, world is their oyster). The graphics would be 3D, the music slow and dark at night in towns, nearly unperceptible at night outside of towns, bright & cheery at day outside of towns, and medium paced at day inside of towns. The music would also of course change inside of buildings and speed up once battle commences.

    RE: Your own game

I tried making games with RPG Maker 2000 (and 2003)... The ones I actually completed weren't that challenging or exciting... Meh.

    RE: Your own game

I use Game Maker. You need to know a little bit of game programming though.
It's harder to use that RPG Maker too. But you get to customize EVERYTHING...
Any way on to my game... I'd base it off my comic...

Genre: I'd probably be more likely to Action/Platformer

    Grapics: Definitly in cel animation.

Gameplay: I'd try to make a simplistic control scheme. And there'd be all kinds of awesome secrets.

Sound: It would have music that is easy to remember. Music that would go with everything else in the game.

    RE: Your own game

I like RPG Maker 2003... you can actually make an Action RPG with that thing...
    "Pedicabo ego vos et irrumabo"
I will f*** you in the ass and mouth
    Catullus, XVI

Things do sound more profound in Latin...

    RE: Your own game

I'd make it something like shenmue. But with more action. And freedom, more fighting styles. Different characters with different story lines. Uhmm...Guns yes. Get shot ones and die. That way if an enemy has gun you would have to listen to him. Lots of training, real advice about life.

Also If you get into a street fight, the police should come to arrest you and you would have to run or spend the night in jail.

Oh and put some Hapkido and Aikido in it. And stay true to the fighting styles! I dont want to see kicking in the aikido style! (Bad Mortal kombat!)

I need time to think about the story line, It should be very engagin though *writes*..

*fujin that would be to you, sir*
    ^_^ Rock on

It makes no sense, has lots of crazy guitar noises and once it has you in it's grasp it will not let go. Ever.

    RE: Your own game

    My game...hmm

    Style:RPG

game play : secret becasue I have alreadly thought up and planed out the games gameplay I will give you this hint the game is more challenging becasue you do not lvl up but rather lvl down and lose abilities. there are two modes of game play easy and hard.

graphics: If i had my ideal team of graphic desginers which would be headed by lichkeeg and probally Akira.

Sound: The music would have to be awsome and probally the most importat part espically later in the game because the main character loses the ability to speak and all cut scenes are devoid of talking so music is direly important

story: Insanely confusing, but gets less and less confusing as you progress. But i will not tell any details because of pirates in the area...

    RE: Your own game

Side Scrolling 2D Gunner action game. The idea is conservation of long range weaponry, as most enemies only become dangerous at close range. Arrows are relatively plentiful, but have a wonky and slow aiming system, guns are faster and easier to use, but must be used conservatively.

    RE: Your own game

My game style would be an rpg

Characters: You could have control of one characters then the rest have a mind of thier own and do what they want in a battle.  There would be large variety of class to choose from and you could change it at any point except during battles.

Fighting Style: There would be a large number of classes. You could choose one class then later on change if you do not like it.  It would have a large variety of attacks for each class. It would show the character's attack and if they miss the monsters would be shown dodging out of the way, but if they do hit it hit it would show a wound not just the same picture of a monster.  It will show the attacks of the monsters and characters not a sword randomly swinging but a full attack and the monster might attack back during your strike or bloke some of the attacks.  The fighting would have a bar fill up an the first to get full would go first and then you would pick you attack, but if you move too slow the monster might kill you.  Also if your groop is downed and you have more people that are still alive they will take they downed peoples place.

Storyline: It would be catchy and intresting enough to make you want to play it again and again even after you beat it a couple of times.  You could choose what side you want to be on in the beginning but if the bad guy says "Join with me." or something like that you could say "Ok lets go kill things." Instead of normal RPG's were the character goes "No never!"

Talking:  To talk to towns people you could say what ever you want to and the towns people will react to what ever you say and they will not say the same thing each time.  Also if they get annoyed they will walk away, not lissen to you, or start to fght you.

World Map: It would have a map of the world but you would travel by foot or horse and in towns and dungeons you would not get stopped by a fence or rock that is half your size, but you could just jump over it, break through it or you could climb on top of them.

A life, heh who needs one, I got it all here in RPing and video games.

    RE: Your own game

    Hmm my own game..

It would pry be a little similar to the video game BloodRayne.. actions wise.. not storyline wise.. for whoever knows me knows of my obsession with vampires and vampirism.

Characters: I'd base these off of an RP SL that Kelli and I are active in. But there would be two main characters for you to play as.

    Aya (female) and Red (male)...

Additional characters (not to play as, but to meet along the way as informants and enemies and such)

Misty, Deacon, Kita, Tyche, Payne, Nat, Saturn, Samen

    Game Type/Style: Fighting/RPG I suppose

Storyline: Eh.. long and complicated story made short, the main female (Aya) sires Red and takes him under her wing so-to-speak, guiding and teaching him the ways of the vampire. There would be an underlying love story between Red and Aya as time in the game goes on. They end up fighting together in an organization/guild/clan against a clan of immortal (and mortal) slayers. Deacon and Saturn head the clan of slayers.

Talking: Aside from the words of the informants, when going into combat Vs. Deacon or Saturn (or both) you can put in choice fighting words or battle cries to which they will respond. Grunts and cursing from blows and injuries should be expected.

Mapage: There'd be a map showing you the various accessable levels/rooms/areas of the forests, mansion(s), taverns and HQ's within the game. But these areas of the map would only become available upon reaching each level.

Smile [:)] Re: RE: Your own game

Well, this is slightly off of the point, but I'll post it anyway, because the name of the topic just fits.  I'm making a game from scratch - It's pretty simple, because I haven't the skills to make a full game like other people have been talking about - as such, I don't have the skills to make my dream game.  I'm making it all by myself, by the way.

    Development journal:
    http://www.quakedev.com/forums/index.php?topic=702
    Thought ya'll might be interested.

Anyway... I have several different ideas for a "dream game" but not an entirely put-together game idea.  Some of the things I'd like to see in a single game are:

*FPS (I like First Person Shooters)
*Skill: you can't just go kamikaze - gotta have some skill, or perhaps think the situation through before making a move.  Nothing on the scale of Counterstrike where you get killed in one hit, but make it easy to die and hard to kill unless you know what you're doing.
    *Interaction with the environment?
*Good plot and music are a must
*Light blooms (not overdone), decals, bumpmapping, specular highlights, parallax mapping, per-pixel-lighting and good physics would be fun too (I'm a programmer Big Smile [:D] - for those of you who don't know what that stuff is, basically Doom3 stuff).
*Experience systems in single player games can be fun if they're done right.  They're great in MP (i.e. Wolfenstein: Enemy Territory)/

The little thing you've started up could use some screenshots of what the interface is (how you setup your areas and raise/lower taxes, ect).
