The Return of the World within EPSC's Mind (D&D Campaign Discussion/Suggestions Centre)

Some of you might remember a time when I came crying to everyone, distressed over a D&D campaign I was trying to run.  The game died in early december and has been resurrected through a series of unholy rituals and some serious-gamer soul-searching.

I bring you the revival of "The Legends of Liev: Fade to Life"

Welcome to the world of Liev, a dying world.  The undead have become common place ever since the "Day of Mished" when the people of the island nation of Mished became cursed, its people killed and reanimated by an unknown force.  Ever since that day, the lands of Mished and Dientres have been slowly sucummbing to decay.  The powers at hand for many generations ignored the rumors of the dead rising and spirits haunting the lands.  However, in the past five years, the skies have begun to darken... The sun does not shine as often as it once did and the land is dying.

With the death of the world within sight, people have begun to demand answers and others have taken advantage of the peoples' panic.  Some have manage to stay pure in the coming darkness.

This time around the dragons are considered the Gods (though they ain't) and it revolves around a new cast of heros.  I'll post DM notes and ask for suggestions like before.  Let's just pray I dont cry again unless they are tears of joy.

Re: The Return of the World within EPSC's Mind (D&D Campaign Discussion/Suggestions Centre)

And lo, I did create the dragons of Liev and they were very badass.

    Legion Profiles

    Thanatos (Phyrrus)
Status: Dracolich Red Great Wyrm Male
    Alignment: LE
    Color: Crimson Red
Personality: Regal and arrogant, Thanatos sees himself as the leader of the Chromatics and the ruler of the world in the Dark God Rammah's absence.  He rules with charm, wisdom and carefully worded threats.

    Morana (Krishna)
Status: Vampiric Black Young Adult Female
    Alignment: LE
    Color: Midnight Black
Personality: Sensual and seductive, Morana seeks the attention of every male and is very jealous of other females, concerned that they will detract attention from her.  Only her little "sister" Aina is exempt from her wrath.

    Odhran (Dubodhran)
Status: Corpse Green Great Wyrm Male
    Alignment: NE
    Color: Evergreen
Personality:  Probably the most levelheaded of the Legion, Odhran keeps to himself on most matters.  He realizes he has all the time in the world to make a decision and is amused by his sibling's impatience.

    Rashanté (Khajag)
Status: Ghostly Blue Young Adult Male
    Alignment: NE
    Color: Deep Blue
Personality:  Charming, agile and cunning, Rashanté is very self-centered to the point of narcissistic.  He is convinced every female wants him.  Only Morana and Aina rival his vanity and lust.

    Bane (Valkoinen [Valk-oi-nen])
Status: Bone-creature White Great Wyrm Male
    Alignment: CE
    Color: Bleach White
Personality:  Fairly dense and slow-witted, Bane will focus on one task to its end, but doesn't go about it in a tactful manner.  He tends to charge into a situation blindly and only stops if someone can get his attention.

    Aina (Amarilla)
    Status: Young Adult Yellow Female
    Alignment: CE
    Color: Pale Yellow
Personality: The youngest of the "first hatched" Chromatics, Aina is very childish and vindictive when angered.  She's been a mate to Rashanté for centuries and is frustrated by their inability to be together since his undeath.

    Savior Profiles
    Miesha (Oriana)
    Status: Young Adult Gold Female
    Alignment: NG
    Color: Shimmering Gold
Personality: Miesha is very loving and compassionate.  Unlike the outspoken Nissa and outgoing Seraphin, Miesha is fairly quiet and reserved.  She believes that it is the duty of the metallic dragons to protect and help mortals.

    Seraphin (Airane)
    Status: Young Adult Silver Female
    Alignment: CG
    Color: Sparkling Silver
Personality: Seraphin is energetic and fun loving, the most out-going and carefree of the metallics, Galen being a close second, and most flirtaous of the female metallics, if not only, making her a rival of Morana and Aina.

    Nissa (Nehushta)
    Status: Young Adult Brass Female
    Alignment: NG
    Color: Shining Brass
Personality: Nissa is out-spoken, yet lacks the confidence to fully defend her position on matters such as the fates of mortals.  She agrees often finds herself being scolded by Ardon and Cypria.

    Cypria (Cyprienne)
    Status: Young Adult Copper Female
    Alignment: LG
    Color: Shining Copper
Personality: Cypria is loyal to Ardon so much so, that she believes his word above anyone else’s, earning her a reputation for having no free will.  This is not the case, she just happens to agree with Ardon on many matters.

    Ardon (Ardwyad)
    Status: Young Adult Bronze Male
    Alignment: LG
    Color: Glowing Bronze
Personality: The self-proclaimed "Voice of Reason", Ardon always thinks before he acts and scolds Seraphin and Galen for acting irrationally and taking risks, as well as Nissa for her foolish ideals.

    Galen (Gweir'ris)
    Status: Young Adult Platinum Male
    Alignment: CG
    Color: Shimmering Platinum
Personality:  Probably the most lazy dragon ever, Galen does what he pleases when he wants because its fun and enjoys getting Ardon worked up.  He knows enough not to do anything dangerous or harmful to others.

    Crystal Profiles
    Ionia (Iolanthe)
    Status: Young Adult Amethyst female
    Alignment: N
    Color: Glowing Violet
Personality: Ionia is very curious and always asking questions.  She loves to learn and spends her days observing everything.  This has earned her a reputation as a daydreamer.  Typically, she is not interested in taking sides on a topic.
    Represents: Telepathy

    Zamur (Zamurrad)
    Status: Young Adult Emerald male
    Alignment: LN
    Color: Flashing Green
Personality: Prideful to a fault, Zamur will never admit he is wrong, even when it is obvious.  Although he is arrogantly prideful, Zamur is a good friend and very loyal to his friends.
    Represents: Psychometabolism

    Neelam (Neelam'rahat)
    Status: Young Adult Sapphire male
    Alignment: CN
    Color: Shining Blue
Personality: Ever the prankster, Neelam is crafty and cunning. He always is plotting with Rowan, causing all kinds of chaos.  Sometimes his pranks go to far and someone gets hurt, though not seriously and Neelam immediately apologizes.
    Represents: Psychoporation

    Raven (Ravindra)
    Status: Young Adult Topaz female
    Alignment: LN
    Color: Glowing Yellow
Personality: Raven is the leader of the Crystal Dragons.  Calm and regal in her bearing, she leads her siblings with great wisdom.  She once formed a “Council of Law” with Thanatos and Ardon to balance the power of the dragons.

    Dara (Dara'laelia)
    Status: Young Adult Diamond female
    Alignment: N

    Rowan (Ruaidhri)
    Status: Young Adult Ruby Male
    Alignment: CN

Wow!  Lots of information here about the dragons

You could almost make a sitcom out of this group if you so desired Big Smile [:D]

I like the sound of Galen...blast, hes a platinum...would have worked if he was a golden (one of my ex avatars)

I have a shade of Ionia in me too Big Smile [:D]

So these dragons are in a battle with one another or an ever growing tension?

And whats this Great War?  A previous tension of sides that turned into a full on war?

Re: The Return of the World within EPSC's Mind (D&D Campaign Discussion/Suggestions Centre)

The Great War is the war in which the real gods of Liev died.  Many of the dragons died and only a few  of each color live to this day.  The dragons lived in peace until the war.  They were the ones who went to the mortals and were viewed as gods since the real gods never appeared before the mortals.

As such, the world creation myth became as such.  Just who was created first and who the Parent Gods are, depends on the race and alignment.

In the beginning, there was the void.  Then the gods were born from their eggs.  The shells formed the stars which are scattered across the sky.  The Mother Goddess and the Father God created the world of Liev in the form of a glowing egg.  Our world hatched from the egg and its people formed from the shell fragements and earth.  Our race was the first and others followed.  Once all races were born, the gods came to us, first in dragon-form and then transformed into humanoids with magnificient wings.  They told us of the other gods and for a time, they walked beside us and taught us their ways.

Then a great battle broke out among the gods.  Many of their brethern, whom were their servants*, died in the great war.  Then, as quickly as the war started, it ended. The gods then took to the skies and became the eighteen constellations we know.  They watch over us and guide us silently.

*think "as devils and angels are to satan and god"

    Lievian Pantheon

Thanatos: God of Death & Darkness
Morana: Goddess of Lust, Vanity & Carnal Pleasures
Odhran: God of Knowledge & Tyranny
Rashanté: God of Evil Rogues, Revenge & Trickery
    Bane: God of War
    Aina: Goddess of Spite

    Light Gods
Ardon: God of Law, Magic, & Paladins
    Cypria Goddess of Healing
Nissa: Goddess of Love & Compassion
    Miesha: Goddess of Light/Sun
    Seraphin: Goddess of Light/Moon
Galen: God of Music & Bards & Good Rogues

Neutral Gods (The Council of Six*)
Raven: Goddess of Knowledge & Law
Rowen: God of  Fire and Metallurgy
Neelam: God of Pranks & Neutral Rogues
Ionia: Goddess of Nature (Wind, Earth, Plants and Animals)

Re: The Return of the World within EPSC's Mind (D&D Campaign Discussion/Suggestions Centre)

What I have planned out for the first session is that each of the players, while they might not know each other, have been hired by a kindly noble to look for his son and a well-known paladin, Sir Keough.  Both men had gone out in an adventuring party a fortnight ago to investigate some rumors of orcs attacking traders near some ancient ruins and they have not returned.

The journey to the ruins will be without event.  They will arrive at the missing adventurer's camp as the sun begins to set.  The camp looks normal, as though they had just left.  Searching carefully they will find the gored remains of a warrior, but it's not the noble's son or the paladin.  It appears he had been running towards the camp.

Should they decide to camp for the night (which I hope they are sane enough to do), they hear growling and moaning in the darkness, but whatever it is, it does not near them.  At day break, the area seem silent.  No birds chirp and the air as an unnatural chill.

Within the ruins, they will find 18 rooms and 1 center room that won't open until 18 orbs have been collected from the surrounding 18 rooms.  In at least 6  of the rooms there are golems, runic guardians or rogue eidolons (from Monster Manual 2)

Within the hall to the center room, there is a bone naga (possibly advanced) that they will have to fight.  After defeating the naga, the group may enter the center room.  All will have to roll a WILL save of 30 not to be stunned as they are bombarded by feelings of anger and fear, hearing a voice cry out "We can't leave them! They need us more than ever!"

The center room has a giant floor mosiac of the constellation map and a mural f the gods transforming from dragon to humaniod.  As soon as the feelings come, they pass and at the far end of the room they see the noble's son.  He is alive, but barely concious.  He says something about spectral snakes attacking them and Sir Keough leaving.

Upon leaving the ruins, a spot check of  35 will allow the player to notice a yellow dragon with blue eyes suddenly vanish into the fog that wasn't there before.  Otherwise, the return to the town will be uneventful and the group will receive the proper gold for gaining a level and gain a level.

    Any suggestions?

That sounds a really well thought out gaming session, EPSC. Great work with the story. You have everything down in detail.

Re: The Return of the World within EPSC's Mind (D&D Campaign Discussion/Suggestions Centre)

You think that the party will follow the road of must get an orb from every room or will they just try to force their way in? Also the question of how did the paladin and noble's son get into the room if they did not get the orbs may come up. Still should be entertaining and should provoke alot of questions from the party as to why this is all happening. Good hook to get them into the rest of the campaign.

Re: The Return of the World within EPSC's Mind (D&D Campaign Discussion/Suggestions Centre)

I have thought up how I can hint that they need the orbs: The door will say so in a poetic manner.  IF they try to force the door open, it won't work (Unless they can dispell its magic, cast stone-to-mud and be able to do that to 2ft of solid marble)

As for how the Paladin and noble's son got there... The noble's son will say that the way was open when he and the paladin entered, but it closed off when they came into the center room, trapping them.  That's when they were attacked and he blacked out.

Ah, I LOVE ruin quests....man, theres just no setting like some place that was once inhabited now plundered and/or destroyed into a numbing silence.  I love that setting.

Kind of reminds me a bit of the Morrowind ruins...dont know why, but I think it has to do with the unordinary-ness of the ruins.  Especially the voice, clearly something beyond the simple ruins lies here

I certainly hope none of your campaigning buddies discover this forum Wink [;)]
