Not to worry AR. I would not want you to like baseball just because I do sometimes. Not a hockey fan myself but that is because I really have never watched it much. I saw a few games in the Seattle Goofwill Games in the early 90's. I watched USA, Russia, Sweden and Norway I think. Did not understand the game and what was going on most of the time but the game play styles were amazing. The USA and Russia would just skate into other people and it was very physical. Sweden and Norway would skate really fast not touching almost and was very graceful. Both styles fun to watch and overall it was entertaining. I really don't get the hockey lockout thing. I mean it seemed to me that players were making alot of money why be greedy and axk for more. Now I fear that they may have killed the game.

actually, a lot of contracts came to an end, and there was too much "violence in the games", but one thing that helped it along was bertuzzi, which i still cant believe he was able to punch like that, and then moore was on the ground, but i still say it wouldnt have been as bad if there wasnt a pile up ontop of the guy who fell on the ice

    Okay.

I went to the A's and Mariner's game last night. First game that I have taken my kids to that they could walk on their own. I think I went to a few Giants games with them in a baby carrier, but that was years ago.

    Freaking Mariners!

Game was lame because the A's won, I had to be inpressed with my boys. They each ate 3 hot dogs. Not bad for 5 year olds.

    Re: Baseball Rant thread

Mariners are really having trouble while the A's are nearly the hottest team in baseball (If not for the Nationals! w00t! Go Nats!) So it was a trainwreck waiting to happen I think

Wow 3 hot dogs! I dont think Ive ever done that in a game (Though I have gone with a 2 Italian Sausages and a hot dog ;) )

Yeah the outcome of the game may have sucked but the kids and I had fun plus it was a nice warm game. There sure was alot to distract one from the game. Embarrassed [:$]

Well the hot dogs were not very big but still I was impressed. I think the kids are going through a growth spurt as lately they have been eating everything in sight.

Well I must say I was hoping to not see this scenerio in baseball this year. The freaking yanks are within a 1/2 game of first and the Red Sox seem to be falling apart. Plus not the A's are making their amazing run. All the whle the Mariners are still floundering round.

    Re: Baseball Rant thread

I know. What a disasterous Sox/Yankees series that was. But I saw it coming a mile away. All the so called experts said that everything would be fine once Schilling came, but I disagreed with them from the beginning. Schilling's career may well never be the same. He was a disaster in the minors, and well hes not improving.

    Yankees win again *sigh* :(

And the Rays/Jays series was equally as heart breaking. I think hte Jays are screwed without Halladay and they are having trouble rebounding without one of their team leaders.

A's had a run going for a while, but then they had a few series in a row that they struggled in, killing their momentum. Fortunetly 1 of those series was against the Jays, so I didnt mind at all ;)

Yeah, sadly Ive only once ever seen the playoffs without them (1993--my first year into baseball)

So Ive gotten used to it....doesnt mean I still dont hate it

    Re: Baseball Rant thread

OK, since we're past the all star break in the season, its now time to really think about the playoffs, theyre still a long ways away, but.....every game counts now, for sure. We've seperated the contenders from the pretenders and now its time to see what cards are left....

If the playoffs were to start now, heres how the playoffs would look like:

    American League:

Boston Red Sox (EAST) at Chicago White Sox (CENTRAL)

Minnesota Twins (Wild Card) at Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim (WEST)

    National League:

Atlanta Braves (Wild Card) at St Louis Cardinals (CENTRAL)

San Diego Padres (WEST) at Washington Nationals (EAST)

Now which color of sox would win? At this time I would have to pick the White Sox.

    Re: Baseball Rant thread

Nah, Red Sox would beat the White Sox. I fully expect to see the White Sox implode once they hit the the post season--no matter who they play. They always implode in the post season. They were in a similar position in 2000 when they had the best record and deemed the best team only to be swept out of the playoffs in 72 hours.

Also look at them, they are dominant against AL Central teams, but nobody else, no doubt helped out by a very mediocre division. The Royals are the cellar, the Tigers have greatly improved but still fly under 500, the Twins are a worse team than theyve been before with some inconsistant pitching and some trade rumors in the air, and the Tribe have inconsistant pitching and anemic batting. The White Sox have basically struggled outside their division.

Listen, this team hasnt gone to a World Series since 1957 and havent won since 1917. Id hate to say the word cursed, but I mean theres definitely something fishy going on in Chicago in baseball (And Hockey).

Theyve got great pitching, I recognize that, and usually a team like the Sox have is able to push through to win, but it look at their lineup...its anemic on all ends. They have only 2 batters in their lineup that have a .280 average or higher (Podsenik and Rowand). I mean thats almost Pittsburgh Pirates land...

    Re: Baseball Rant thread

Yeah I have to agree on the curse and Chicago theory. If they Bulls had not had MJ, Chicago would not have had that bit of fame either.

Well the boys and I are going to see the A's vs. Indians tonight. And as usual the A's have heated upt their season once again and are contenders. I just hope my boys are not too disappointed when the Indians come out on the field and are wearing normal baseball uniforms instead of buckcksin pants and eagle feather headdresses while wielding tomahawks and firing arrows at everyone.

    Re: Baseball Rant thread

Well just as I thought the A's wiped the field with the Indians. The game was alright even though we left in the bottom of the 6th inning because it was getting cold and late. I forgot to bring enough sweatshirts for evenyone so the kids each had one and I had nothing.

Now the thing that really ticked me off was the consessions stands. When I went to the Mariners and A's a month ago all the consession stands were open and they had hotdogs for $1 each. I thought this was pretty cool. SO this time I am thinking it will be the same. WRONG! They only opened the consession stands on one level so even though the attendance was down the lines were longer than before and the hotdogs were $3.50 each. Now I had not planned on spending that much at the game and had not packed my own food or any snacks so the kids each got a hotdog and a drink only. It cost more than the game tickets. It was like the consession stands knew that the addendance would be down as it was a week night game instead of a weekend game and they wanted to make the same money so they just gouged the people that did show up. No wonder the A's can't get anybody to go to the games even when they are doing great. I have one more game on the schedule for the boys and I to attend and now I am not so sure I want to go again. I will most likely go because the boys really want to, but I am not happy with the way things are handled at the stadium.
