I feel like playing Baldur's gate 2 again, but whenever I begin creating a character I just feel sad because I've experienced pretty much everything in the base-game, so I'm interested in mods of all kinds... some romance mods maybe, but more importantly, mods with more quests, items, NPC's and companions... I'm currently in a fileplanet cue to download "The Darkest Day" mod, but I'm interested in more as well if you got good tips, feel free to share them ^^ also, please post active links to places where you still can download the mod(s) I know this have been brought up in some other thread, couldn't find it tho ^^

First things first, this thread probably belongs in the Entertainment forum.
Now, onto the question at hand--
Ive been in that same boat Shaddow, Ive played that game top to bottom,
so I tried some Mods myself about 2 years ago, a year and a half ago
Most every mod of NPC was complete crap, especially the Soloufein
NPC. They looked like they put a hell of a lot of effort into
making Soloufein a playable character and they completely, I mean
COMPLETELY missed the ball on this one. The way they created the
character was so out of character from the Soloufein in the game.
They turned him into a bard-like dweeb that was about as sensitive as a
poet who enjoys gardening. It was sickening what they did to
him. Ultimately I wont give you the link to this add on as it was
so badly done.
There were lots of NPC mods in the works too when I was playing, but
the site that gave me the most happiness as far as mods were concerned
was the Pocket Plane Group. I played Xan while he was still in
production but apparently since then, theyve finalized that mod and hes
completely playable now and interactive! They also have excellent
NPCs Kelsey and Keto there aswell who were well done
Heres
a link to Xan and you can navigate to other mods here
I also vaguely remember Valen being an NPC in a mod, heres the link but I dont remember the quality of it
Valen

I think hes just saying hed like to have them in the BG universe.
They were really cool NPCs I agree, not sure how much theyd fit in
Badurs Gate, but theyd be cool regardless. PS:T had probably the
most inventive and enjoyable NPCs of all, Annah, Morte, Ignus, Fall
From Grace, Nordom, there were a few others who Ive forgotten a bit
about but they were all very good.

I tried the new mods (Xan, The Darkest Day, Valen, Kelsey (or whatever)) so far I've experienced a little of the first 2, Xan was great and TDD seems pretty good too...I don't know if the quests are all that great, but it's fun with more classes... and new spells ofc atm, I'm playing a Shaman (a druid class) which is quite nice... also, I got an NPC who's class is "Troll Slayer"... can't wait to go to D'Arnise hold ^^ I also found an NPC who is an assassin a lot of spells have gotten new animations, and as I mentioned there are a lot of new spells, most of them are pretty damn cool I think Valen will be pretty cool too, but to get her I need to join the vampires in the guildwar, so I have to wait until chapter 2 heh, These new NPC's and classes may indeed keep me occypied for a while longer ^^ there are suppose to be 7 or 9 NPC's that come with TDD... also, TDD makes the beginning a bit harder... in Irenicus dungeon in the beginning you suddenly get hammered by Bugbears, Ogres and extra Otyghs, and an Ettin in the end... the new TDD NPC's seem to have quests as well, but not as worked-out dialogues as Xan

http://dragonshoard.blackwyrmlair.net/download.phpthat's where I got it, about 304 MB if you get full version + latest patch well, after playing a bit of TDD, I found the NPC's don't have much / any banter, which sux, the quests seem pretty lame, it's like in a review I read today "either you do them or you don't", no options also, they're poorly made on the upside: You get more items from vendors (some are really cool / good, but ofc expensive, tip: look at the adventures mart, the fatty in Copper Coronet and the priests in the tempel district) you also get more, if banterless, NPC's, which is still good you also get more sub-classes, some better than others, so far I've tried two Shaman (druid, me) Troll Slayer (fighter, an NPC) you also get more monsters at some places... like D'Arnise hold, there I got welcomed by Cyclops before I got to the pallisade ^^ so I'd say the download was worth it, but not as good as it could have been hehe, try getting drunk with Xan in your party, that was funny

Thats one heck of a download, and Im on dialup, it would take somewhere close to 25 hours to download.
Overall, it sounds like the pocketplane mods are more worth the time and effort even if the add ons arent quite as plentiful

still on 56k? poor guy, I've not had that for so long, I wouldn't manage going back ^^ 8 Mbit down, 1,5 up, that's the way it should be, or better ^^ anyway, I'd say the greatest additions to TDD is the new classes and some of the items you get... the NPC's are allright, nothing great tho... Kelsey, Xan and Valen are pretty damn sweet though Xan most of all "Why not give up and just lie down and die?" (lol) Valen is sweet as well, because she is a multiclassed fighter/thief, which makes her good in combat, but with thief skills... on the downside, she is specialized in daggers and you'll mostly use her "claws" anyway (a +2 dagger with leveldrain and something else, I think) allthough a nice thing is that she is fast and she allways activates hide in shadows and detect traps when not in combat, combined that is... but as she grows in level, it might very well be worth it to put skills on 2 weapon-fighting and after that long swords... then she'll be badass ^^
