    Complaints About "Upgrade"

How can I get rid of the "Shortcuts" and "Popular Tags" links on the right-hand side of the screen?

Why have the counter displays on the threads disappeared?

Just the shortcuts and popular tags, or the entire sidebar?

Describe the counter displays, as I'm not sure what you're referring to.

Yes, is there a way to delete or not to view the entire right-hand sidebar?

Prior to the upgrade, if I was, say, within the El Goonish Shive "Random" forum, each row would give the title of the thread, the last post info, the number of pages, the number of replies, and then the number of views.

I no longer see the counter of the number of views ("hits") that a thread gets.  Is there any way to see that again?

    Re: Complaints About "Upgrade"

I suppose I might as well add on some issues I noticed. First off, the last post field doesn't work properly for boards with subforums. It correctly displays the thread and poster, but the date is the date of the last post not in a subforum. For example, looking at the El Goonish Shive forum from the global forum correctly displays that the last post was a reply to "I See Dice - Phase 3" by me, but the date given is 07-23-2006 7:23 PM, which is the date of the last post in Rad, the last thread in EGS that's not in a subforum of EGS. This issue is not exclusive to the EGS forum.

Now, I said the thread and poster were accurate on the last post , but I recently encountered a temporary situation where it wasn't. Looking at the EGS forum's last post from the global forum gave the second to last post, looking at the random subforum from the EGS forum gave the second to last post, but actually going inside the random subforum or the thread gave the real last post. I've only encountered this once, though. Edit: And of course that issue resurfaces with this post. I wonder how long it will be before anyone finds it.

It's not enough to succeed, others must fail.
What if there were no hypothetical questions?

I'm looking into these issues, trying to see if I can come up with a solution that doesn't involve creating a 2nd theme.

Subforums have always been problematic, especially with the caching.  All the data is cached for 5 minutes I believe, but each one is on its own timer, which may be the source of the issues.

    I agree.

Also, is it just me (using Netscape 7.0) or do other people have an issue with not being able to paste into the message box? >.>

Phil, I know that sometimes in Mozilla-based browsers it looks like the cursor isn't there, but if you type or post, it really is active.  Is that the issue you're referring to?

As much as I dislike firefox, I'm surprised you aren't using firefox if for some reason you don't like ie7 (or can't use ie because of OS)

    Re: Complaints About "Upgrade"

That is sometimes a problem, but I realised I could keep typing anyway. What I was actually referring to was as far as my browser is concerned the text box isn't a text box, it's a webpage. I can't Ctrl+v or other such commands into here and when I right-click I don't get options like Select All, Copy, Paste, etc. just things like Back, Reload, Page Info, etc. As I say, it's not a huge problem for me, I'm a multibrowser kind of guy. But not everyone is and it's something I noticed so I thought I'd raise it.

As for my browser choice, I use Netscape at home as it's just the prettiest browser I've come across. I use Firefox at uni, though, as it's more robust when it comes to a lot of webpages out there. I only use IE these days when other browsers don't work. At home it's as simple as the rest of my family uses IE and it's now so full of crap there's hardly any browser left in it. XD At uni it's just a matter of habit after spending a year and a half on Linux system that couldn't use IE, even though I'm back to a Windows system now.

The date problem still persists -- at least in one place.

If you go to http://webcomic.net/forums/default.aspx?GroupID=26 the El Goonish Shive forum says that the last post currently is:

even though the "Story: The Trials of Susan" thread was created on July 16th, 2008!

So I don't know where that April 22nd comes from, but it's incorrect.  You might want to check on whether the problem exists anywhere else.
