Under the message there is a whole toolbar that doesn't show up.35, 24

Back in Safari, copy/pasting the codes that came from firefox's tool bar.

    Re: roleplaying dice roller beta

On Firefox, clicking on that red dice brings up a window that doesn't do anything.  It lists some dye types, but they don't roll.

What are some of there?  WW?  Wonder Woman dice?  [dice type=ww]Xd10[/dice]

    [dice type=SR]Xd6[/dice]
    [dice type=SRE]Xd6[/dice]
    [dice type=DonJon]Xd20[/dice]
    [dice type=se]Xd6[/dice]

    Re: roleplaying dice roller beta

LOL.  WW is White Wolf.  Xd6 won't work, it has to be changed to 1,2,3,4 etc.  Its probably a safari issue, possibly a mac issue in general, but I'm going to look into the code that fires the bbcode, it probably is purposely not processing the post if it detects a non-windows browser, I'll remove that restriction if I can find it and give it another try.

Unfortunately I don't know anyone who uses a mac IRL, so these issues are sometimes hard to trace.

    Re: roleplaying dice roller beta

Hey Prof_Sai, before I start digging into the guts of CS, can you try something they suggested over on CommunityServer.org?   Go to your profile (by clicking on the link at the top, or clicking here http://webcomic.net/user/EditProfile.aspx?ReturnUrl=/forums/AddPost.aspx?PostID=788504 ), click on Site Options, and change your editor to TinyMCE Standard or TinyMCE Enhanced.  It won't have the premade dropdowns, but its supposed to have better support for mac users.  Then just try something simple, like 9([ dice]3d6[/dice ] but get rid of spaces).

If it works, I'll redirect my development effort to try and modify the TinyMCE to get the dice roller and pbf options.  if it doesn't, I'll just try and fix CS itself.  As a side note, when using the red dice PBF utilty popup, after you type in dice code, you can click "Get Dice Rolls" to have the service scan your e-mail, find the dice bbcode and replace it with generated numbers which are logged in a database.  At least it does on windows....  After that, and you are happy with it, you click OK to return the text to your post and then finalize the window.  It doesn't work very well in the quick reply though...

    Re: roleplaying dice roller beta

I made the change.  Now the tool bar appears in Safari.  Lets see what happens with dice:10Edit:Ah hah!  That seems to have done the trick.  BTW.  Is there a way to see the timestamp right away?  I used to use that as a secondary die roll sometimes. 160<p>Edit 2:  Okay, now it is removing all the return characters and making everything one paragraph.

    Re: roleplaying dice roller beta

I changed it to TinyMCE standard.  Now the tool bar is smaller, lets see what happens with the dice. This should be a new line with the dice roll: 101

Hey, Prof Sai, do you want me to fix up your name? The new version of the forums makes that quite simple..

    Re: roleplaying dice roller beta

Ok, its getting a bit closer, the dice roller works, but tinyMCE seems to be removing all linebreaks for you?  I'll see if there is a newer version of tinyMCE, there almost suredly is.

As for the timestamp, can you elaborate a bit?

Ok, further research turned up this chart: http://tinymce.moxiecode.com/tinymce/docs/compatiblity_chart.html

Unfortunately safari seems to only be partially supported, BUT, firefox is supposed to be fully supported in Mac with tinyMCE.  Can you give it a try and see if its the perfect blend?

The alternative is to change your editor to Plain Text, which will load faster and in theory should work for all platforms, but you'll have to do everything by hand.  If it does work, it is possible I could add some dice roller stuff and other basic tools above the plain text box.

Let me know what you want to do, and I"ll lean in that direction.

    Re: roleplaying dice roller beta

For getting my screen name, my main concern is that it connects to all my old messages, and shows me as the same person with 600+ posts, not just 27.  Is that possible?I just updated to MacOS 10.4, which includes a newer Safari - (So you aren't doing ALL the work.)  I'm seeing the menu bar in tinyMCE enhanced, but not the dice button.  I don't particularly mind codes in brackets, Since I don't use Firefox that often, I'd prefer that.  Lets see what the codes do:  110

    Re: roleplaying dice roller beta

Still with the no line breaks.Firefox seemed to work better until is suddenly stopped working at all.  (It happend when Iloged off of Prof_Sai alt, and tried to access Prof_sai.)[br]Timestamp.  We used to use the forum clock as a secondary random number generator.  If an option required some extra value, we would look at the last digit of the time that a message was posted - for example, a message that posted at 5:42pm would have a random value of "2".  This would cause certain options in our game to happen differently.  For example, if you rolled a certain option it might say you shrink by (timestamp) inches, while another problem can be gotten rid of if you mannage to post on the 1st, 3rd, or 5th minute of each ten minute span.  However now all the new messages list the time posted as "a few seconds ago" and you have to wait a day to find out the exact forum time.<br><br><p>Another thing I notice: the forum no longer tells you what dice were rolled unless you mouse over it or click on the number.  Given that some players had a hard time understanding the rules, it is useful to be able to easily see what they actually rolled.

    Re: roleplaying dice roller beta

Firefox now always says: "We are currently unable to serve your request" - I've tried a number of different URLs within the forum.  URLs for http://topwebcomics.com/ work, but not anything in the forum.

    Re: roleplaying dice roller beta

Ok, I disabled the friendly error message, can you try to use firefox again and just copy and paste the error message here?    it should be long and in yellow, but try and grab everything even the parts not in yellow.  (FYI Firefox still works for me, so I'm guessing its a cookie issue, but then again, firefox for windows works for me, which doesn't necessarily mean anything for you. Sad)

I've removed the aggrodate function, which should render you the timestamp in the format you want.

Many people don't necessarily want to see which dice were rolled, but I could add a type that you could set to show which dice were rolled, I would also add them in the dropdown if you give me some common formats that would help for your game and what to call them.  The flag would work something like [ dice type=YourGameName]3d6[/dice ] (without spaces of course) which would translate into something like rolled 3d6: got 12.   Or if you wanted it like the white wolf style, rolled 3d6: got 2,5,3 or whatever format you want and whatever type description you feel is appropriate and easy to type.

And ultimately if you use the plain text box, I'll customize it a bit to show some plain text links that can add various common functions, if you describe some that you don't want to have to type over and over, I'll whip up a sample and we can see where it goes.
