Re: Auto Racing (revived)
RE: NASCAR--Yeah here you can see the crash between Ryan Newman and Tony Stewart: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HlKHycKmL5w
BTCC---
Race 1--Yeah NASCAR does the same thing with potential debris that will
fall off a car. Lord, NASCAR knows they cant throw a debris
caution when theres ACTUALLY debris on the track! Oh Im
just being cynical. Its probably something that BTCC watched in
NASCAR once again. And in this case I think its wise. A
bumper can be quite a piece of debris to dodge.
Those VXRs cant buy themselves any luck. Chilton and Giovanardi
both had terrific runs going for them (in retrospect of how the year
has gone) and both have their podiums snatched away from them for
various reasons. You get the feeling that VXR has to pounce on
this tire problem as soon as humanly possible else this season is a
complete wash for them.
That was quite an exciting battle for the last spot on the podium,
too. Shame that it was a laugher for the lead. Rather
rotten victory for Plato. Eoin Murray did a great job for Quest.
----------------
Race 2--Great job by Neal to get by Thompson early. That was a
crucial pass. Erkut made a Fariqe moment there, but hes
inexperienced so its forgiven.
Giovanardi's and VXR's luck continue with that accident, and Collard,
he just seems like hes been a bit rough around the edges this
year. Reminds me of Reid's last year in BTCC only less impressive.
Great job by Neal to get Plato and win in his milestone race!
--------------------
Race 3--Haha! Wow what an odd way to start the race.
Actually it reminds me of yesterday when I got my oil changed and they
forgot to fully close the passenger car door, so as I was driving away
I started to feel and hear odd things from the right side of the
door...it was the traffic without a door to muffle the sounds and
air. Fortunetly I stopped the car and got the door closed after
reaching over.
Smith wasnt a factor to hold off Thompson but Giovanardi! What an
excellent start! That was highlight reel material laps 1-3 right
there. He made it look easy. THATS the kind of stuff we
were expecting out of Giovanardi this year and he shows he still has
the talent to pull off that kind of stuff. Must have been great
fun to see
Shame Giovanardi keeps having those horrid tire problems. You
think if not for those hed be piling up those podiums. It ended a
great surge but still gave him a solid 5th. Sheddon too has
seemed to be having tire failures. He must be a really aggressive
driver.
Neal probably got involved so much in the battle he didnt even notice
he went so far off the curb. Oh well, 4th is still fine.
Thommo with a deserving victory. Really should have been 2 this
weekend.
-------------------
Re: Proctor--Ah that is a terrible shame. He seems to have rotten
luck with DNFs. The car just had 0 reliability. Probably
the best that he sell that off before it continues to dig into his
profit. I just hope to see him again on the circuit and very
soon.
Re: Griffin--Good news to hear their season is just about to come
together. We've been waiting a little while and it looks like it
will happen
Re: VXR--Yeah they desperately need to make changes, whatever they may be.
Re Aguri--Thats a kinda nice new look for the car, a little more life
to it, but youre right, it looks a lot like a Toyota, only a bit more
red. Ah well, the Japanese teams really want to show off their
national colors.
Will Yamamoto be any good?
--------------------
NASCAR qualifying from Pocono--the triangular track
Denny Hamlin claims his 2nd straight pole at Pocono, and he hopes to win from pole just as he did here last month
Stephen Leicht, the likely driver to replace either Elliott Sadler or
Dale Jarrett will make his Cup debut this weekend driving for Yates.
Chad Chaffin had originally made the field with plenty of room to spare
for Front Row Motorsports, but he got disqualified for the car being
too low. That knocks him out of the field and promotes Jimmy
Spencer back in the field.

Re: Auto Racing (revived)
Picks:
1. Kasey Kahne
2. Jeff Gordon
3. Kurt Busch
Scratchit: But he's a cripple! Blackadder: He's not a cripple, Mrs Scratchit. Occasionally saying "Phew! My leg hurts!" when he remembers to wouldn't fool Baldrick!

Re: Auto Racing (revived)
Yes, of course youre welcome to join in. I have been terrible in
updating the points this year but Ive updated them accurately now.
Let me in on the quick rules of it
You pick who you think will finish in the top 3 for any event for WRC,
NASCAR, F-1, or BTCC. You can compete in as many or as few events
as you wish.
If you pick 1st correctly, you get 4 points. 2nd correctly you
get 3 points. 3rd correctly gets you 2 points. If one of
your top 3 picks finishes in the top 3 but not where you picked, you
get 1 point. So you can have up to 9 points in a week
-----------------------
As for yesterday's race, sheesh, there really was no doubt from the get
go. Ill do an abbreviated summary of the race since it was
more like an F-1 race...with fueding
Denny Hamlin led from pole and if it wasnt for caution flags, he would
have lapped the field by midway. And yes this track is HUGE so
that speaks on how fast he was going. But a competition caution
and then the most contravercial accident of the day put the field
closer to Denny's bumper. Before the cautions he had a 6 second
lead over 2nd place Brian Vickers at the 20 lap mark. 6 seconds
for 20 laps. Hed have a minute lead over the course of the race
if it had gone green to checkers.
But as I was saying the most contravercial moment of the day came under
caution flag #2. Clint Bowyer and Tony Stewart were battling for
a top 10 spot. Bowyer got loose off turn 3 and pushed up,
pinching Stewart just a tad. Stewart didnt hit the wall, but
didnt appreciate Bowyer pinching him. So he waved his hand out
the window and then shot down the track into Bowyer, causing Bowyer to
spin. Now heres where the wreck becomes unexcuseable.
Bowyer had lost control from the contact and shot into innocent Carl
Edwards who received major right front damage which would make his race
unrepairable. Hed go down a lap and wouldnt make it up. Now
Stewart's stupid driving and getting pissed at close racing has cost
someone a good finish and perhaps a chance at the chase. Edwards
under the caution pulled up to Stewart and gave a motion as to "What
was that?!?" and Stewart gave Edwards the bird (the finger).
Stewart was penalized a lap for rough driving but hed eventually make
it up. Under the caution there were different pit strategies
that sent Hamlin down to 9th. He didnt last there and after 50
laps hed eventually get back up into the lead. Jeff Burton and
Ryan Newman led while Hamlin came back up through the pack.
The next caution had Kyle Petty cut down a tire and wreck. Under
the caution, everyone pit and Edwards repaid Stewart on pit road,
spinning out. Edwards had a lap penalty for rough driving but his
race was already destroyed anyway.
The next most contravercial accident came midway through the race when
Dave Blaney wrecked Dale Earnhardt Jr on a straight away sending him
nose first in the wall. Probably improper bump drafting.
Earnhardt Jr wasnt happy but did nothing to retaliate. He just
said "I was just dumped on the straightway. Either he is a ****
or just ignorant. I hope the latter".
Up front, Denny Hamlin dominated the rest of the race and won
handly. Kurt Busch, Jeff Gordon, Jeff Burton, Kevin Harvick, and
Jimmie Johnson actually had some good battles for the best of the rest.
After the race, Edwards and Stewart had some things to say about eachother and Stewart added onto Bowyer too.
Edwards said things like: "I dont know what hes thinking. Stewart
just made our chances on making the chase just about impossible now.
He just went over and wrecked Bowyer. I drove up to
Stewart later and was wondering what he was thinking and he gave me the
finger. What a jerk!"
Stewart said things like: "Its these first and second year drivers who
dont know what theyre doing on the track. They think they can
push people around on the track. They dont know what theyre
doing. They dont know the meaning of give and take. All
they do is take take take. I dont have problems with guys like
Mark Martin, Bobby Labonte, Jeff Gordon. They get it. Even
Kyle Busch is starting to get it, and if HE is starting to get it than
anyone can."
Well my opinion is, a little drama is kinda fun, but Im starting to
really get fed up with Stewart's antics. He apparently is that
jackass type on the road in the Hummer that takes up 2 lanes and then
gets upset when someone wants to pass them on the highway.

Re: Auto Racing (revived)
I find it highly ironic that Stewart did a 180 yesterday morning and took complete responsibility for the incident, apologizing to both Bowyer and Edwards.
I think someone must have had a "come to Jesus" meeting with him about his failure to look anything at all like Dale Earnhardt Sr :)

Re: Auto Racing (revived)
Yeah youre right. I think Stewart understands he did wrong here but really hes still coming off rather poorly.
The thing about Earnhardt Sr...I mean I really never liked his driving
style. Far too aggressive and unforgiving. But he knew a
limit and he never wrecked people who were behind him, that I can think
of. And whenever he got upset at someone else during the race, he
would gesture and he may talk about it after the race, but he really
didnt carelessly wreck anyone for sheer revenge.
Stewarts got anger management problems, and hes got a real problem with
power. Hes seemed to always have these problems. He needs
to reform, and I believe NASCAR has to do something about it too.
Id look into what happened with Harvick back in 2002, when his antics
were of the same quality and quantity. Harvick is still a
wise-guy on the track and in interviews but his respect on the track
and for other drivers greatly improved since then.

Re: Auto Racing (revived)
NASCAR: Stewart's reaction was over the top to wreck Bowyer, I think Carl
Edwards had every right to feel aggrieved by Stewart's actions.
Edwards' chances of making the Chase are small now and he needs drive
the socks off that car to make it in. However looking at the incident
from Stewart's perspective may shed some light onto his actions. He's
under quite a bit of pressure at the moment, Stewart is having to
battle to make the Chase and it is by no means certain that he will be
in the top 10. So with this pressure it is somewhat understandable
(though not logical or excuseable) why he took the action he did on
Bowyer during the race.
Oh yes, I believe there was actually a race in all of this...no, wait
there really wasn't. Denny Hamlin absolutely slaughtered the opposition.
F1: The FIA have told BMW to remove those vertical wings
on their car on safety grounds. Actually I suspect the real motive is
that the FIA think the vertical wings look silly and ugly and I fully agree with the FIA.

* Friday Test Drivers
Williams have signed an engine deal with Toyota for next season, I'm
not sure where this will leave Midland or Cosworth for 2007.
BTCC: Interesting news about a possible new team for next year.
Of course it's way too early to get anything definite at this stage of
the year but a team is planning to buy a brace of Chevrolet Lacettis
from the WTCC, convert them to run on bio-ethanol and run them in the
BTCC. The man behind the idea is Scotsman, Colin Neill, who is looking
to have the team named after sponsors as Team Clyde Valley Racing.
Neill is looking into either setting up his own team from scratch or
using an existing team to run the cars. I would suspect that either
West Surrey Racing or Tech-speed Motorsport maybe interested in this.
The team targetting the currently out of work, Dan Eaves as one of
their drivers. Neill is talking to EEMS (Energy Efficient Motorsport)
about help to convert the Chevy motors to run on bio-ethanol. EEMS have
helped in the past with John George's LPG-powered Honda and Peugeot and
Tech-speed's current bio-ethanol Vauxhall.
Of course it is very early at this stage so I won't hold my breath, after all we're only halfway through 2006.
EDIT: Bio-ethanol appears to be gaining in popularity. Jason Hughes has
had his MG converted to run on bio-ethanol for this weekend. He said
that bio-ethanol gives the car a performance advantage. This is indeed
quite likely. Bio-ethanol increases the bhp of an engine to give it
more power. As such Fiona Leggate is often one of the fastest in the
speed traps, Jason Hughes now hopes that this will help him go faster.
Scratchit: But he's a cripple! Blackadder: He's not a cripple, Mrs Scratchit. Occasionally saying "Phew! My leg hurts!" when he remembers to wouldn't fool Baldrick!

Re: Auto Racing (revived)
My picks:
1-M Schumacher
2-Alonso
3-Raikkonen
--------------------
RE: BTCC--Thats rather exciting news. Im glad teams are looking
to bio ethanol in a competitive means in racing. And even more
exciting would the addition of the Chevrolet Lacettis which seem to be
a machine that can compete at these levels, but I certainly would
expect the car to have its growing pains and teething issues.
Id love to see what more bio-ethanol can do
NASCAR is off this weekend.
Heres a nice link to see the possible changes for 2007
