    300

I saw 300 on Thursday. I thought it was a fine movie with plenty of action. Certainly quite gory and clearly not historically accurate but overall an enjoyable couple of hours. The acting was good and clearly they were carrying over a more comicbook feel into the movie. I couldn't help but thinking when I saw David Wenham's character for the first time, standing in ranks with other Spartans being inspected by King Leonidas, "Ah Faramir! You thought well at the Battle of Osgilith!" Definitely one worth watching.

    Re: 300

I've seen it now! Don't we see Dilious (I think that's his name) once before, at the start of the movie with his black headband/eyepatch though? Because he's narrating? Doesn't matter. It was funny though. Especially the bit where the two kings are talking.

    Re: 300

My favorite line from the 300 movie?

Xerxes: Your Athenian rivals will kneel at your feet... if you but kneel at mine.

Leonidas: That is quite an offer. I'd be crazy to refuse it. But this kneeling business... I'm afraid killing all those slaves of yours has left me with a nasty cramp in my leg.

    Transformers

I saw Transformers today. It's a pretty good film with plenty of giant robot action but also a lot of humor as well. The trailers and commercials tell you pretty much all you need to know. There's a war between two factions of shapechanging robots, the Autobots and the Decepiticons, and that clash brings them to earth (I'll avoid any potential spoilers by being vague). After the opening sequence (featuring a Decepticon attack on a military base in the middle east) the film focuses on Sam Witwicky, played by Shia LaBeouf. He's a teenage dork whose dad buys him a beat up camaro in exchange for his getting good grades. But there's more to this car then meets the eye. Wink  I especially like the way Bumblebee (the camaro) tries to help Sam hook up with the cute girl he goes to class with (when she walks out on her boyfriend the car's radio starts to spontaneously play "Who's Gonna Drive You Home Tonight" to help prod Sam into giving her a lift). Big Smile

I'm not a hardcore Transfan, but there were several tributes to the old school Transformers that I recognized.  Optimus Prime being voiced by Peter Cullen, saying that "Freedom is the right of all sentient beings" and "one shall stand, one shall fall," before his fight with Megatron. I'm sure there are some fans that will be unhappy with the new Transformer designs and different voice actors, but I didn't have any problem with the changes. For me Cullen was the only one that had to be retained (no offense to Gary Chalk, but Cullen is the one true voice of Prime). Cool

Transformers gets a solid 8 out of 10 on the Kayless-O-Meter. Yes

    Re: Transformers

I too would give it a high score.  The only thing that detracted from my Transformers experiance was parent units who brought their spawn to see the film.  I did not need the 4 year old with the bladder of a field mouse moving in front of me every 20 minutes nor did I really need the 3 year old who couldnt tell an Autobot from a Decepticon asking "Mommy" which robot got hurt or what was going on with the robots every 5 minutes.

I've gotten some criticism from people who have or haven't seen the film and complain about the product-placement.  Hello? Hasbro owns Transformers and the Autobots turn into cars. Of course there is product placement!

I never really saw the cartoon series but what little I had seen seem to shine through in the film.  Esspecially Starscream's kiss-@$$ additude to Megatron (in front of his face).

    Live Free or Die Hard

Just got back from seeing this, and I gotta say this: 9/10.

Bruce Willis gave a rock-hard performance. Great humor, sassy attitude, and believability as a gritty veteran. Still, the fact of what his character went through at a few points made me wonder: how could he survive that?

    Overall, though a GREAT movie.

Being a HUGE fan (as Kayless himself can attest to) of the original series, Transformers is the next on my list.

    Transformers

@ Kayless and EPSC, I'm glad you guys liked Transformers. I'm trying like mad to avoid spoilers because the film is not being released here until 27th July. 17 days to go. I've heard mostly good things about the film, I have heard about the product placement being an issue with some but quite frankly what were they expecting?

@ Galuf, I look forward to seeing Die Hard 4.0 as it is known in the UK (for some reason it isn't called Live Free or Die Hard here). It looks to have some very good action in it.

    Re: Transformers

Okay, JUST got back from seeing Transformers, and I can say it was good.

Peter Cullen still IS Optimus Prime. No doubt about it, after hearing his performance in the film. Bumblebee, being a Chevy Camaro was a nice touch, including his useage of movie clips via radio to emphasize his points. Megatron lived up to his common persona, BUT I think Hugo Weaving's lines as him needed some work.

Overall, the movie made me laugh, gasp, and smile like many others.

This longtime fan of the original series - and fan to meet the likes of Peter Cullen himself - is giving this film a solid 8/10. Michael Bay pulled it off, IMHO.

Harry Potter and the order of the pheonix

A few days ago i saw Harry Potter and the order of the pheonix. not bad, but as anyone who's seen the other films has proberly worked out; it's gotten darker, i believe that the films are starting to focus more on Harry's emotional state more then anything, but it's got a few reasonalbly funny parts.

    Out of 10 -

Re: Harry Potter and the order of the pheonix

The Harry Potter books knows they've been progressively getting darker, so it is good to see the films sticking to that. I do think the books are better than films.

Just 10 days until Transformers is released in the UK! Everytime I see a movie now and the opening credits my heart leaps because I know very soon now I'll be seeing the opening credits to Transformers. My one concern is that having been waiting for the film for so long now I'm turning into some crazed Transformer lunatic.

Why is it released so late in the UK? Cool

    Transformers

Transformers is being released late to get around Harry Potter (book and movie launch) and to come in at the start of the school holidays.

Check your local cinema. There are loads and loads of advanced screenings this weekend! I only found out last night Big Smile The movie was great. I enjoyed every second of it. The action was awesome (though at some points a little hard to follow) and the humour was good. Vastly enjoyable, I'll probably be seeing it again soon Big Smile

    Re: Transformers

I just found out that there's a G.I. Joe reference in the Transformers movie.  The commander of the military base at the beginning of the film is named Colonel Sharp, after a character in the old G.I. Joe mini-series in the early 80's.  Cool
